The meanings of verses 42:36-40 of the Noble Quran:
Verse 42:36 says:
So whatever you have been given, of wealth, luxuries and adornment of life of this world, is [but] the enjoyment of the life of this world, enjoyed for the duration of it but then perishes and it will not last.
But the reward of Allah in the afterlife is better and more lasting (Eternal); it is for those who believe in Muhammad and in the Quran and put their trust in their Lord, not in their wealth.
Verse 42:37 says:
And those who shun the worst of sins (i.e. idolatry or put a partner or son with their Lord) and indecencies i.e. adultery and other transgressions and, when they are wroth, forgive and do not retaliate, they let it pass
Verse 42:38 says:
And those who answer the call of their Lord through believing in Allah’s divine Oneness and obeying Allah
And establish worship
And perform the five daily prayers,
And whose affairs are a matter of counsel, when they want a certain matter, deliberate among themselves about it and then embark upon it,
And they spend in charity of what Allah has bestowed on them) of wealth,
Verse 42:39 says:
And those who, when they suffer aggression, injustice, defend themselves; that is to say, they retaliate against those who wrong them in the same manner in which the latter wronged them, through the law of retaliation, not by means of presumptuousness,
Verse 42:40 says:
For the requital of an evil deed is an evil deed like it
The guerdon of an ill deed is an ill the like thereof)
The guerdon of wound is a wound like it.
But whosoever pardoned the wrong he suffers and amended and forgoes retaliation, his wage is the affair of Allah
His reward is upon Allah.
Allah does not love those who initiate wrong and are unjust.
