Chapter 7 of Quran (14) Satan from upgraded to degraded

Allah Said unto Satan, Go down from the heavens, Come out of Angelic form, Leave your upgraded Angelic form; you are degraded, You ought not to show pride to the Children of Adam.

In the previous articles, Allah commanded the Angels to prostrate before Adam and they immediately obeyed Allah.
However, the upgraded Iblis (Satan) thought that he is above the Angels and refused to prostrate before Adam because of his arrogance, jealousy, and rebellion. Satan’s egotism put himself above man, and his falsehood ignored the fact that Allah had not merely made man’s body from clay, but had given him spiritual form.
The verse 7:13 of the Noble Quran declares that:
Immediately, Satan received the right answer to his arrogance:
“Allah said: Off with you hence! It is not for you to show your arrogance here. Get out, then; you will always be among the humiliated.”
Neither his knowledge of Allah nor his belief in Allah’s existence and attributes were of any benefit to Iblis.
Allah Said unto Satan,
• Go down from the Garden
• Go down from the heavens
• You are not from among its [rightful] inhabitants, those who are the glorious ones.
• Come out of Angelic form.
• Leave your upgraded Angelic form; you are degraded.
• You ought not to show pride, in the form of an Angel, to the Children of Adam
• It is not, right, for you to show pride here, so go forth, out of it!
• Surely you are among the abased!’ the contemptible!
• You are of those who are humiliated in that you are punished.
• It is not befitting of the spiritual presence, which you claim to belong to [by right], by your acting superior to the intellect.
What is the lesson out of that?
The same applies to anyone who receives a divine order and claims for himself a degree of discretion about whether to accept or refuse that order, or claims the right to refuse Allah’s ruling on any question whatsoever.
For this entails disbelief in spite of knowledge and certitude. Iblis was not at all lacking in either his knowledge of Allah or his certainty of His attributes. He was expelled from Heaven and deprived of Allah’s grace. He incurred Allah’s displeasure and was condemned to permanent humiliation.
Evil and obstinate as he is, Iblis does not forget the cause of his expulsion and Allah’s displeasure with him: namely, Adam. He does not want to accept his miserable fate without trying to avenge himself.

He (Allah) said: ‘descend from it! This is no place for you to be proud. begone, you are of the humiliated. ‘
SHAKIR:
He said: then get forth from this (state), for it does not befit you to behave proudly therein. go forth, therefore, surely you are of the abject ones
PICKTHAL:
He said: then go down hence! it is not for thee to show pride here, so go forth! lo! thou art of those degraded.
YUSUFALI:
(Allah) said: “get thee down from this: it is not for thee to be arrogant here: get out, for thou art of the meanest (of creatures).”

Chapter 7 of Quran (13) Satan’s egotism = the first racism

Satan’s egotism put himself above (the Angels and) man, he ignored the fact that Allah had not merely made man’s body from clay, but had given him spiritual form. Satan’ sin = the first racism ever committed in the entire history.

Essential background:
Allah created the Angels from light. The Angels are noble creature and they never ever disobey Allah.
Allah created Jinn from fire. Iblis (Satan) was among the Jinn. Jinn, like Humankind, have the power of will; some of them obey Allah while the others disobey Allah.
Iblis worshipped Allah, prostrated before Him and was very obedient. Iblis asked Allah to upgrade his rank and put him among the noble Angels in order to worship Allah more and more. Allah accepted his request for reason.
Iblis’ pride of himself grew up and he thought that he is better than the noble Angels are.
In the previous article, Allah commanded the Angels to prostrate before Adam and Iblis was among them!
All the Angels obeyed Allah and prostrated before Adam.
Iblis refused! He did not prostrate!
The verse 7:12 of the Noble Quran says:
Allah said: “What has prevented you from prostrating yourself when I commanded you?”
Iblis Answered: “I am better and nobler than he: You created me out of fire, while You created him out of clay”
Iblis here claims for himself a private opinion and a right of discretion to consider whether to comply with an order given by Allah or not. He wants to base his action on what appears to him to be justifiable.
When Allah gives a clear order, no one has the right of discretion. The only thing that is left is complete obedience and perfect compliance.
However, fully aware that Allah is the Creator and Sustainer of all creation and who controls the universe to the extent that nothing takes place without His permission and consent, Iblis refuses to obey, justifying his disobedience by his own logic:
“I am better and nobler than he: You created me out of fire, while You created him out of clay.”
Notice the subtle wiles of Iblis: his egotism in putting himself above man, and his falsehood in ignoring the fact that Allah had not merely made man’s body from clay, but had given him spiritual form, – in other words, had taught him the nature of things and raised him above the Angels.
This Iblis sin = the first racism ever committed in the entire history.
Arrogance, jealousy, and rebellion were Iblis’ triple crime.
For this reason, anyone says, “I am better than…” has a share of Satan’s egotism.

He said: what hindered you so that you did not prostrate when I commanded you? he said: I am better than he: thou hast created me of fire, while him thou didst create of dust
PICKTHAL:
He said: what hindered thee that thou didst not fall prostrate when I bade thee? (Iblis) said: I am better than him. thou createdst me of fire while him thou didst create of mud.
YUSUFALI:
(Allah) said: “what prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?” he said: I am better than he: thou didst create me from fire, and him from clay.”

Chapter 7 of Quran (12) the Angels prostrated before man

It is very interesting to think about the Angels who prostrated before Adam. Then think about we are Adam’ sons. As if, the Angels prostrated before us represented by our father Adam. Adam and humankind are synonymous. What an honor!

The verse 7:11 of the Noble Quran declares:
Allah created you O humankind, then He formed you, then He said to the Angels, “Fall you Prostrate before Adam.”
Allah, the Almighty Creator, is reminding the children of Adam of His favors.
He is teaching them about His good Godhood and His holding to the Covenant.
He is saying, “I created you, and I sculpted your beautiful faces. I drew your tall statures and gave you two seeing eyes, two listening ears, and a speaking tongue.
I am the Lord who:
• Makes being from nonbeing,
• Brings forth what is from what was not, and
• Makes things newly from the outset.
• The painter of faces is I,
• The adorner of beauties is I,
• The one who pairs everything with its companion is I,
• The maker of every being in a fitting way is I.
I created heaven, earth, and the inanimate things to manifest power.
I created the Angels, Satans, and jinn to manifest awe.
I created Adam and his sons to manifest forgiveness and mercy.
It is Allah who created you and gave you shape;
Shape or form must be interpreted not only to refer to the physical form, which changes day by day, but also the various forms or shapes which our ideal and spiritual existence may take from time to time according to our inner experience.
It was after Adam (as standing for all humankind) had been so taught that the Angels were asked to prostrate to him, for, by Allah’s grace, his status had actually been raised higher.
Note the transition from “you” (plural) in the first clause to “Adam” in the second clause: Adam and humankind are synonymous.
Then Allah bade the Angels bow down to Adam, and they bowed down; not so Iblis, he refused to be of those who bow down.
Iblis not only refused to bow down: he refused to be of those who prostrated.
In other words, he arrogantly despised the Angels who prostrated as well as man to whom they prostrated and he was in rebellion against Allah for not obeying His order.
Arrogance, jealousy, and rebellion were his triple crime.
This was the Start of Human Life on Earth
It begins with an announcement of the forthcoming birth of humankind.
The announcement is made in a majestic celebration attended by the Supreme Society, a Quranic term that refers to the Angels.
As a further evidence of honor, no one other than Allah Almighty makes the announcement when the Angels are gathered, and Iblis is present, though he is not one of the Angels.
It is indeed a great event in the history of the universe:
This is the first scene, which is both exciting and very serious indeed.
We have indeed created you, and then formed you. We then said to the Angels: “Prostrate yourselves before Adam!” They all prostrated themselves, except for Iblis: he was not one of those who prostrated themselves. (Verse 11)
The Angels are a different type of Allah’s creation who have their distinctive characteristics and special tasks.
We do not know anything about them except what Allah has told us, which we have stated earlier.
Iblis belongs to yet another type of creation, different from the Angels. Allah states in the Quran, in reference to Iblis: “He belonged to the jinn and acted contrary to his Lord’s command.” (The verse 18: 50)
The jinn are also a type of creation different from the Angels; he was created out of fire.
Hence, most certainly he never was an Angel, although he was commanded to prostrate himself to Adam together with the Angels in that great event when the Almighty announced the forthcoming appearance of man, the unique creature.
As for the Angels, who never disobey Allah in whatever He may order them and simply do what they are bid, they all prostrated themselves in total obedience to Allah. None hesitated; none showed any indication of arrogance, because none contemplated disobedience of Allah for any reason. Such is their nature and such are their characteristics. Here we see clear evidence of the honour Allah has given to man, and of the total obedience that is always shown by the type of Allah’s servants to whom we refer as the Angels.
As for Iblis, he wilfully disobeyed Allah, defying His orders. Later, you will learn what thoughts were in his mind and what caused him to take this stance although he was perfectly aware that the One who was giving the orders was his Lord who had created him and who had control of his destiny as also of the destiny of the whole universe. Iblis never entertained any doubt about all this. Nevertheless, he still disobeyed Allah.
Three Different Natures
Herein, we have three different types of Allah’s creation:
1. The first is that given to absolute obedience and complete self-surrender. In this scene, its role is completed with the submission it makes which manifested itself in the Angels prostrating themselves, one and all, to Adam as commanded by their Lord.
2. The second type is that of absolute disobedience and spiteful arrogance, while
3. The third is that of human nature, the humankind.
It is very interesting to think about the Angels who prostrated before Adam. Then think about we are Adam’ sons. As if, the Angels prostrated before us represented by our father Adam. Adam and humankind are synonymous. What an honor!

It is we who created you and gave you shape; then we bade the Angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; he refused to be of those who prostrate.

Chapter 7 of Quran (11) Islamic concept vs. Greek and Roman concepts

The Greek and Roman concepts = nature is man’s enemy.
The Islamic concept = nature is man’s friend.

The verse 7:10 of the Noble Quran declares:
O Children of Adam, We have given you authority and power, in the earth, and have appointed for you therein livelihoods that from which you eat, drink and clothe yourselves, that is, the means by which you are able to survive;
Allah provided you therein with means for the fulfillment of your life. That is, all the material things, which are necessary to sustain, beautify, and refine life, as well as all those powers, faculties, and opportunities which are instrumental in bringing up life to a higher plane and preparing man for his high destiny
However, little thanks you show.
You, Humankind, give little thanks for all that Allah has done for you.
This is the starting point of the great journey of human life. It begins by giving the human race power so that it can settle on earth.
“We have established you firmly on earth and We have provided you there with means of livelihood. How seldom are you grateful.”
The Almighty Creator of both the earth and man is the One who has made it possible for the human race to establish itself on earth.
It is Allah who has given the earth its qualities and characteristics and has made all these balances, which allow human life to prosper and provide people with sustenance and other means of livelihood.
Indeed Allah has made the earth suitable for sustaining human life, by giving it
• Its atmosphere,
• Its particular size,
• Its shape and make-up,
• Its appropriate distance from the sun and the moon.
Allah has set the earth in its orbit in order to enable it to move round the sun, and given it its particular speed and determined the angle it makes with its axis.
All these balances are as important as giving the earth the potential to produce sustenance and sources of energy to enable human life to continue and prosper.
In addition, Allah has made man the master of all creation on earth, giving him the ability to utilize the earth’s potential and resources by his ability to identify and use the laws of nature.
It is unfortunate that the Western communities still adopt the ancient Greek and Roman concepts that try to show man engaged in a fight against natural forces, with every discovery of natural law man makes portrayed as a triumph of man against nature.
All these concepts are both absurd and evil.
Had it been true that the natural laws of the universe are hostile to man and that they work in opposition to what man does, and had it been true that these forces operate without any control by a wise will, man would have never come into existence in the first place.
How could he have existed?
How could he survive in a hostile universe and environment when these are subject to no external will or power whatsoever?
How could he have sustained his life, when all these great forces are opposed to him?
The question becomes even more forceful if we are to accept the claim that these forces are subject to no control other than their own.
Only the Islamic concept of life provides a coherent concept that relates all these details to their original and consistent line.
Allah has created both man and the universe. His will and wisdom has determined the nature of this universe making it possible for human life to maintain itself and prosper.
Allah has also endowed man with the ability that makes it possible for him to identify certain natural laws and utilize them for his own needs. This perfect coherence and harmony is the one worthy of Allah’s creation, because Allah’s work is but the perfection in every aspect.
Allah does not place His creation on a war footing so that they are always hostile to one another.
Under this concept, man lives in a friendly universe, enjoying the care of a wise, supreme power.
It follows that man is at peace with himself, reassured, able to move steadily in order to fulfil his task as vicegerent on earth. He feels that he can rely on unfailing help and he deals with the universe in an attitude of mutual friendship. He praises Allah every time he is able to discover a new secret or a new law of the universe, which enables him to fulfil his task and makes it possible for him to make progress and increase his comfort.
This concept does not discourage man from working to discover the secrets of the universe and identify its laws. On the contrary, it encourages him to do so with confidence and reassurance. He is not in confrontation with a hostile universe that guards its secrets from him and withholds its help. He is not in conflict with an enemy who tries to forestall his efforts, his hopes and ambitions.
Man is the son of this earth and this universe. Allah has created him out of this earth and established him on it, and He has provided him with the means of sustenance and livelihood. Moreover, He has enabled him to acquire knowledge and discover the secrets of the universe.
Allah has made the laws of nature move in harmony with human existence, so that man is able to make use of these laws in order to set his life on the road to progress. What he needs for this is to try to identify these laws with an open mind.
However, human beings are seldom grateful, because when they are in the depths of ignorance, they do not know what blessings Allah has given them.
Even those who know are unable to thank Allah in full for the grace He has bestowed on them. How can they ever thank Him enough? It is an aspect of Allah’s grace that He accepts from them what they can do. In both situations, the Quranic statement is true: “How seldom are you grateful.”

It is we who have placed you with authority on earth, and provided you therein with means for the fulfilment of your life: small are the thanks that ye give!

Chapter 7 of Quran (10) Allah is the absolute Just

The reckoning on the Day of Judgment will be most fair and accurate, and no one shall suffer any injustice. Every action, little as it may be, shall be taken into account.

In the previous article, the Noble Quran declares:
On the Day of Judgment, the weighing, of deeds or of the scrolls of these [deeds] shall be — in a balance that has a tongue and two palms.
It is the questioning mentioned, namely, the Day of Resurrection
The weighing of deeds is the true and fair weighing.
As for those whose scales are heavy, with good deeds, that is, those whose weighed things preponderate, being the enduring righteous deeds they are the successful, the triumphant.
They are the ones who escape Allah’s wrath and torment.
They are the ones who prevail with the attributes of primordial nature and the bliss of the Garden of the attributes at the station of the heart.
Moreover, the verse 7:9 of the Noble Quran declares:
as for those whose scales are light, because of evil deeds, those are the ones, who have lost their souls, by causing them to travel towards the Fire, because they mistreated, because they disbelieved Allah’s Prophet Muhammad and the Quran.
they are the ones who have lost their souls, by having sold them in exchange for hasty pleasures that are quick to disappear and by annihilating them in the abode of annihilation despite their [the souls’] being the commodity [to be exchanged] for subsistence.
“Whereas those whose weight is light in the balance are the ones who have lost their own souls because of their wilful rejection of Our revelations.”
This is because what they bring to weigh on Allah’s accurate scales is seen to be unmistakably light. They have lost their own souls.
What gain can they make thereafter?
Human beings try to gather wealth and make gains in order to ensure their own future.
When they have lost their own souls, what is left for them? This loss has been made “because of their wilful rejection of Our revelations”
Here the Quranic verse uses the same word as ‘wrongdoing’ which also means `injustice’.
These two terms, wrongdoing’ and injustice are frequently used in the Quran as synonymous with unbelief or associating partners with Allah:
“To associate partners with Allah is indeed an act of great injustice.”
(The verse 31: 13)
The reckoning on the Day of Judgment will be most fair and accurate, and no one shall suffer any injustice.
Every action, little as it may be, shall be taken into account.

Sahih International
And those whose scales are light – they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.
Pickthal
And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they used to wrong Our revelations.
Yusuf Ali
Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs.
Shakir
And as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is light those are they who have made their souls suffer loss because they disbelieved in Our communications.

Chapter 7 of Quran (9) Weigh your deeds before they are weighed

Weigh your own deeds before they are weighed against you, take an account of yourself and gaze upon your own works

The verse 7:8 of the Noble Quran declares:
On the Day of Judgment, the weighing, of deeds or of the scrolls of these [deeds] shall be — in a balance that has a tongue and two palms.

As for those whose scales are heavy, with good deeds, that is, those whose weighed things preponderate, being the enduring righteous deeds they are the successful, the triumphant.

The weighing that day is true.
The weighing of deeds with the scales of self-purification is true, and
The weighing of states with the scales of truthfulness is just.
Hapless and deprived is the one
• Whose deeds are tainted with eye-service and
• Whose states are mixed with self-admiration,
For in the station of the scales these states will have no value and those deeds will have no weight.
Allah says, “On the Day of Resurrection, We shall assign them no weight” [the verse 18:105].
Among the traditions of “Umar” (one of Muhammad’s best friends) is this:
“Take an accounting of yourselves before you are brought to account,
Weigh your deeds before they are weighed, and prepare for the Greatest Exposure.”
He is saying, “Weigh your own deeds before they are weighed against you, take an account of yourself and gaze upon your own works:
What have you made ready for the Greatest Exposure and the gathering place of the resurrection?”
This is why Allah, the Lord of the Worlds said,
“Let every soul consider what it has forwarded for tomorrow” [the verse 59:18].
A report has come that an intelligent man has four hours in which to seek his felicity and adorn his days:
• The hour in which he takes an accounting of himself and weighs his own deeds and states,
• The hour in which he whispers secretly with the Real and shows his need to Him,
• The hour in which he takes care of his own livelihood, and
• The hour in which he takes his ease in whispered prayer and in what he has been given of this world.
The weighing that day is true.
The top people of Sufism say that the scales are diverse.
The soul and spirit have a scale that is commands and prohibitions, and its two pans are the Quran and the Sunnah (the way of life prescribed as normative for Muslims on the basis of the teachings and practices of the prophet Muhammad and interpretations of the Quran)
The heart and intellect have a scale, that is reward, and its two pans are threats and promises.
The recognition and the secret core have a scale that is approval, and its two pans are fleeing and seeking.
Fleeing is to escape from this world and to cling to the afterworld.
Seeking is to leave aside the afterworld and seek Allah.
“On that day, the weighing will be true and accurate.”
There is no room for deception, wrong judgement or arguments.
“Those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance are the ones who are successful.” (Verse 8)
This means that what those people bring to weigh on Allah’s accurate scales will be found heavy.
Thus, they have earned their great reward which ensures their ultimate success.
What success can be greater than avoiding Hell and the return to Heaven at the end of a journey that has extended throughout one’s life?

And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy – it is they who will be the successful.
Pickthal
The weighing on that day is the true (weighing). As for those whose scale is heavy, they are the successful.
Yusuf Ali
The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those, whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper:
Shakir
And the measuring out on that day will be just; then as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is heavy, those are they who shall be successful;

Chapter 7 of Quran (8) Allah shall narrate their stories

Allah is the Knower of everything; He has been witness to everything. Allah shall recount the whole story of both the believers and the unbelievers among the people of the entire Prophets.

The verse 7:7 of the Noble Quran declares:
Allah shall narrate to them with knowledge of what they did
Allah shall inform them, with what they have done for verily Allah was not absent, when the messengers were conveying His Message
Nor Allah was not absent during the time of bygone communities and what they did.
Allah was not absent from the conveyance of the messengers and the response of the people when it happened.
Allah shall recount their whole story with knowledge, for Allah was never absent at any time or place.
Allah (being all-knowing) is never absent from any place or at any time, for Time and Place are relative conceptions for our limited natures, while He is the Absolute, independent of such relative conceptions
Allah who knows everything and who is fully aware of every detail will relate to them every point they had overlooked
Allah is the Knower of everything; He has been witness to everything.
This touch is a profound reminder to all humankind, warning them against rejecting Allah’s faith.
Allah shall recount the whole story of both the believers and the unbelievers among the people of the entire Prophets e.g.

• Moses,
• John,
• Jesus and
• Muhammad

Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent.

Then verily We shall narrate unto them (the event) with knowledge, for We were not absent (when it came to pass).

And verily, We shall recount their whole stories with knowledge, for We were never absent (at any time or place).

Chapter 7 of Quran (7) Allah shall question His messengers

Allah shall question His entire messengers and Prophets about their conveyance of His Message. Allah shall question Noah, Hūd, Şāliĥ, Abraham, Lot, Moses, John, Jesus and Muhammad about their conveyance of His Message.

The verse 7:6 of the Noble Quran declares:
Allah sent His entire messengers with a message to their people.
The fundamental of Allah’s message = “there is no god save Allah who has:
• No Partner(s),
• No Similar
• No Equivalent
• No Son(s)
• No Daughter(s)
• No Wife
• No Mother
• No Father”
The entire Messengers and Prophets have perfectly done their job.
However, On the Day of Judgment,
Allah shall question His messengers and Prophets, about their conveyance of His Message.
Verily, in addition, Allah shall question those to whom the Message was sent.
Allah shall question those communities, about their response to the messengers, and to what extent they implemented that which was conveyed to them.
When those who suffered Allah’s punishment in this life are brought in front of Allah for questioning, their confession made at the time when they were destroyed in this world is not sufficient.
They have to face a new line of questioning which makes their wrongdoing known to all generations of humankind who are gathered together on that great day, the Day of Judgment.
The people who received messengers are asked first and they make their full confession.
The messengers themselves are then questioned and they give their full answers.
Allah shall question Noah about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Hūd about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Şāliĥ about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Abraham about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Lot about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Moses about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question John about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Jesus about their conveyance of His Message.
Allah shall question Muhammad about their conveyance of His Message.

Chapter 7 of Quran (6) their plea and confession

When Allah’s punishment, which destroyed them, came unto them, no plea words had they, save that they said: “Lo! We were wrongdoers.”

In the previous article, Allah destroyed a great number of towns for defying His Messengers and rejecting them. This behavior led them to earn disgrace in this life, which led them to disgrace in the Hereafter.
What happened when the unbelievers saw Allah’s punishment?
What have they said?
The verse 7:5 of the Noble Quran declares:
When Allah’s punishment came upon them they will say”
‘We were evildoers indeed’.
No plea words had they, when Allah’s punishment, which destroyed them, came unto them, save that they said:
“Lo! We were wrongdoers.”
“Indeed we did wrong.”
The spiritual story of man begins with a prelude. Think of the towns and nations ruined by their iniquity. Allah gave them many opportunities, and sent them Messengers to warn and teach them. However, they arrogantly went on in their evil ways, until some dreadful calamity came and wiped out their traces.
In a warm climate, the disturbance in the heat of the midday rest is even more than the disturbance at night. It was when the catastrophe came that the people realized their sins, but it was too late.
Those people who were taken unawares could do nothing other than to own up to their situation and confess to the attitude they had taken
Normally a human being makes every sort of claim, but does not confess his crime, particularly if it means that he faces a terrible prospect. Nevertheless, in their situation, those communities could do nothing other than admit their guilt and condemn themselves as `wrongdoers’.
It is a very terrible situation in which they have found themselves, because the maximum they could do to try to alleviate their situation is to make a full confession.
Besides, the `wrongdoing’ to which they refer here means the rejection of the faith and the adoption of idolatrous beliefs.
When they made this confession, it avails them of nothing, because the time for repentance has lapsed.
When Allah’s punishment is administered, there can be no return and no more chance to mend one’s ways.
Historically, this happened (for example) to the deniers of the Prophets Noah, Hūd, Şāliĥ, Lot, Shu`ayb as well as to Pharaoh and his soldiers when they denied the Prophet Moses.

And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, “Indeed, we were wrongdoers!”
Pickthall
No plea had they, when Our terror came unto them, save that they said: Lo! We were wrong-doers.
Yusuf Ali
When (thus) Our punishment took them, no cry did they utter but this: “Indeed we did wrong.”
Shakir
Yet their cry, when Our punishment came to them, was nothing but that they said: Surely we were unjust.
