Angels in Islam (9) do they Sleep?

The Angels are created from light.

Does the light sleep?

The Angels never ever sleep.

Do the Angels rest? They never ever rest; they work all the time.

[In the Bible, Jehovah, the Lord God rested in the 7th day of creation]

How come that the some creatures never ever rest and the Almighty Creator rests?

Well, then what the Angels do all the time?

The verse 21:20 says:

They glorify Allah night and day

They pray to Him at night and during the day; (they flag not)

They glorify His praises night and day, they never slacken.

They persist in their worship night and day, obeying Allah to the utmost

Thus, the verse paints a picture of creatures glorifying Allah and extolling His praises at all times.

However, the question is: do they get bored?

They do not get bored of worshipping Allah and of acknowledging His Lordship all the time.

They glorify Allah all the time, and they do not falter.

For Angels, glorifying Allah comes to them as naturally as breathing comes to us; it is something which we can never be distracted from.

The verse 21:20 in four different translations

QARIB:

They (the Angels) never fail to exalt him either at night or in the day.

SHAKIR:

They (the Angels) glorify (him) by night and day; they are never languid

PICKTHAL:

They (the Angels) glorify (him) night and day; they flag not.

YUSUFALI:

They (the Angels) celebrate his praises night and day, nor do they ever flag or intermit.

Angels in Islam (3) who was created first Angels or man?

When were the Angels created?
We have no knowledge of precisely when they were created, because there is no text to tell us this.

Neither the Quran nor the Hadith tells us about when they were created.

But they were created before mankind for certain, because the Quran says in the verse 2:30:

“Behold, Allah said to the Angels: ‘I will create a vicegerent on earth.’”

The fact that Allah told them of His intention to create man indicates that they were already existed before Adam’s creation.

The verse 2:30 clarifies the following:

1) The Angels were created before Adam

2) Man is Allah’s vicegerent in the earth

3) The Angels predicted that man will corrupt and shed blood

4) The Angels worship, pray to, praise. Celebrate, Exalt, glorify and sanctify Allah’s holiness all the time.

The verse 2:30 in four different translations:

QARIB:

When your Lord said to the Angels: ‘I am placing on the earth a caliph, ‘ they replied: ‘will you put there who corrupts and sheds blood, when we exalt your praises and sanctify you? ‘He said: ‘I know what you do not know. ‘

SHAKIR:

And when your Lord said to the Angels, I am going to place in the earth a khalif, they said: what! wilt thou place in it such as shall make mischief in it and shed blood, and we celebrate thy praise and extol thy holiness? He said: surely I know what you do not know

PICKTHAL:

And when thy Lord said unto the Angels: lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn thy praise and sanctify thee? He said: surely I know that which ye know not.

YUSUFALI:

Behold, thy Lord said to the Angels: “I will create a vicegerent on earth.” they said: “wilt thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate thy praises and glorify thy holy (name)?” He said: “I know what ye know not.”

The meaning of the verse 2:30

Allah, Exalted is He, mentioned the story of Adam’s creation saying: And when your Lord said unto the angels: (Lo! I am about to place a vicegerent in the earth), I am creating a vicegerent from the earth, (they said: Wilt Thou place therein) will you create therein (one who will do harm therein) by committing sin (and will shed blood) through transgression, (while we, we hymn Thy praise), pray following Your command (and sanctify Thee) and mention you in a state of purity?

Allah said: Surely I know that) which shall ensue from this vicegerent (which you know not.
