Chapter 6 of the Quran (26) when Allah seized the ancient deniers

The Quran says that Allah sent messengers to the communities before you O Muhammad, but they denied them. Allah seized them with affliction and hardship, when they did not believe so that they might believe and be saved.

In the preceding article, Allah instructed His Prophet Muhammad to say to the unbelievers:

Have you thought about your ending when Allah’s punishment comes upon you in the life of this world and /or at the Day of Judgment?

Do you then call for help to any other than Allah to lift the torment from you?

They would have no answer.

However, the Quran tells them what they will say at the Day of Judgment Allah’s punishment come upon them.

Ayah 41 says:

Nay; they will not call anyone except Allah to lift the torment from them.

They will leave and forget wver partners they ascribed unto Him; they will leave and forget the idols or any partners they associate with Him and do not call unto them. They will call none but Allah to remove from them such things as punishment, suffering etc.

Ayah 42 says:

Indeed Allah sent to communities before you O Muhammad messengers, but they denied them,

Allah has sent already unto peoples that were before you O Muhammad just as Allah has sent you to your people

And Allah seized them with misery, abject poverty, pain, hunger and hardship, illness,

Allah seized them with tribulation, affliction and hardship, when they did not believe so that they might be humble, abased, that they might believe; in order that they may believe and pray that Allah lift the punishment from them and they were saved.

The verse 6:41-42 in different translations

QARIB:

41) No, on him alone you will call, and he will remove that for which you call upon him, if he will. then you will forget what you associate (with him).

42) Before you we sent forth to other nations, and then seized them with misery and hardship so that they might humble themselves.

SHAKIR:

41) Nay, him you call upon, so he clears away that for which you pray if he pleases and you forget what you set up (with him)

42) And certainly we sent (messengers) to nations before you then we seized them with distress and affliction in order that they might humble themselves

PICKTHAL:

41) Nay, but unto him ye call, and he removeth that because of which ye call unto him, if he will, and ye forget wver partners ye ascribed unto him.

42) We have sent already unto peoples that were before thee, and we visited them with tribulation and adversity, in order that they might grow humble.

YUSUFALI:

41) “Nay,- on him would ye call, and if it be his will, he would remove (the distress) which occasioned your call upon him, and ye would forget (the false gods) which ye join with him!”

42) Before thee we sent (messengers) to many nations, and we afflicted the nations with suffering and adversity, that they might learn humility.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (11) Shameful vs.Greatest Testimony

What a difference between the two testimonies, the Shameful Testimony of the Jews and the Greatest Testimony of Allah.  Is worshipping the idols better than worshipping the one true God? What a Disgraceful Testimony!

————————————————————————————-

Ayah 6:19

The historical background

The Shameful Testimony of the Jews and Christians

The chiefs of Mecca said: ‘O Muhammad, we see that no one believes in what you say concerning the matter of messengership. We have asked the Jews and Christians about you and they claim that there is no description or mention of you in their Scriptures; we asked them about which religion is better yours or ours? They said that our religion is better.

What a Shameful Testimony. Is worshipping the idols better than worshipping the one true God?

The chiefs of Mecca continued: So show us someone who will testify that you were a messenger, as you claim’

Bring us someone to testify to the truth of your prophethood, for the People of the Scripture have denied you and your religion!

.

As a response, Allah, exalted is He, revealed this verse”.

Say, to them: ‘What thing is greatest in testimony? that is, fairer and most pleasing in testimony.

Say: Allah, even if they do not say this, there is no other response.

In other word, If they answer, fine, if not Say:

Allah is witness between you and me that I am His Messenger and this Quran is His speech.

And this Quran has been inspired in me and that Gabriel has brought down this Quran to me that I may warn therewith you with the Quran and whomsoever it may reach I am a warner to him.

Allah is Witness between me and you, to my truthfulness; and this Quran has been revealed to me that I may warn you, that I may make you fear, O people of Mecca, thereby, and whomever it may reach , that is to say, whomever among men and jinn the Quran may reach.

Do you indeed bear witness that there were other gods with Allah? (this interrogative is meant as a disavowal).

Say, to them: ‘I do not bear witness’, to this.

Say: ‘He is only One God, and I am innocent of what you associate’, with Him of idols.

In other words, say: Do you O people of Mecca bear witness that there were gods beside Allah i.e. idols: you say that they were Allah’s daughters?

And if they bear witness, Say: I bear no such witness with you.

Say O Muhammad: He is only One God, the only true God Verily! I am innocent of that which you associate with Him of idols in worship.

The verse 6:19 in different translations

QARIB:

Say: ‘what thing is greatest in testimony? ‘say: ‘Allah is a witness between me and you. this koran has been revealed to me in order that i can warn you and all whom it reaches. do you indeed testify that there were gods other than Allah? ‘say: ‘i do not testify! ‘say: ‘he is only one god, and i am quit of that which you associate. ‘

SHAKIR:

Say: what thing is the weightiest in testimony? say: Allah is witness between you and me; and this quran has been revealed to me that with it i may warn you and whomsoever it reaches. do you really bear witness that there were other gods with Allah? say: i do not bear witness. say: he is only one Allah, and surely i am clear of that which you set up (with him)

PICKTHAL:

Say (O Muhammad): what thing is of most weight in testimony? say: Allah is witness between me and you. and this qur’an hath been inspired in me, that i may warn therewith you and whomsoever it may reach. do ye in sooth bear witness that there were gods beside Allah? say: i bear no such witness. say: he is only one Allah. lo! i am innocent of that which ye associate (with him).

YUSUFALI:

Say: “what thing is most weighty in evidence?” say: “Allah is witness between me and you; this qur’an hath been revealed to me by inspiration, that i may warn you and all whom it reaches. can ye possibly bear witness that besides Allah there is another Allah?” say: “nay! i cannot bear witness!” say: “but in truth he is the one Allah, and i truly am innocent of (your blasphemy of) joining others with him.”
