Atheists in Quran (19) Travel and broaden your mind

The Quran says to the Atheists: Travel in the land, take admonition from the nature of the sequel for the unbelievers; and read the History to realize how the end of the Atheists was!

———————————————–

The meanings of the verses 27:66-69:

Has the Atheists’ knowledge come to comprise and attained the Hereafter?

Such that they have reason to ask about the time of its coming.

Their knowledge is in consensus that there is no Hereafter

Nay, for they are in doubt of it.

Rather they are heart-blind to it

Linguistically, this Quranic statement is more powerful than the preceding one

The Atheists say, also in rejecting the idea of resurrection:

What! When our fathers and we are dust shall we indeed be brought forth again to life from the graves?

Shall we verily be brought forth (again)) given life again and brought out of the graves?

Our fathers and we have been already promised this before. Nevertheless these are just the legendary fables of the ancients; these are but lies.

We were promised this, which you are promising us, before us.

All this, which you are promising us, O Muhammad, is naught but fables tales (of the men of old.

Could it be true that after life has departed from us, and our bodies have decomposed and been reduced to dust and ashes, we will be brought back to life? Is it true that we and our forefathers, who died long before us, will be raised up from the earth when we have become part of its dust?

This physical image acts as a barrier preventing them from accepting the possibility of future life. They forget that they have been brought into this life from nothing.

Say: ‘Travel in the land and see how the sequel was for the criminals’, because of their denials — and this [sequel] is that they were destroyed with punishment.

Allah commanded,

Say O Muhammad, to the Atheists:

Travel in the land and see.

Travel in the land take admonition from the nature of the sequel for the guilty

Travel in the land and see how the end of the Atheists was!

In other word, read the History to realize how the end of the Atheists was!

At this point, the Quran directs the Atheists to turn their minds to the end met by earlier communities, which, like them, denied the warnings given by Allah’s messengers

The Atheists are described here as the guilty ones

What happened to those who were guilty in the past may happen to the guilty in later generations, because the divine laws admit no favoritism. Travelling about the land was certain to inform them of experiences, and these would contain a lesson for them. It would open their minds and hearts to light. The Quran directs people to learn of the operation of the divine laws to broaden their vision and give wider dimension to their lives.

68- We were promised this before, and so were our fathers. it is but the fictitious story of the ancients. ‘

66- Nay, their knowledge respecting the hereafter is slight and hasty; nay, they are in doubt about it; nay, they are quite blind to it

68-We have certainly been promised this, we and our fathers before; these are naught but stories of the ancients

69-Say: travel in the earth, then see how was the end of the guilty

PICKTHAL:

66- Nay, but doth their knowledge reach to the hereafter? nay, for they are in doubt concerning it. Nay, for they cannot see it.

When the Disbelievers will Testify against Themselves that they were the Losers?

What the Angels of Death will say to the Disbelievers when they Take Away their Souls?

When a Community Curses its Sister-Community on the Day of Resurrection

When the Disbelievers say to Allah: ‘Our Lord, Give them a Double Chastisement of the Fire’?

The meaning of verse 7:37

Who does greater wrong,

who is more insolent and bolder vis-à-vis Allah,

this means that  none does greater evil than he who invents a lie against Allah, by ascribing to Him a partner or a child, or denies Allah’s tokens, Muhammad and the Quran.

For such, their portion, their lot, of the Scripture, of what has been inscribed as theirs in the Preserved Tablet, in the way of provision, term of life and other matters, shall reach them as predetermined and promised in the Book of destiny.

Give them respite, O Muhammad, until when Our messengers, i.e. the angel of death and his helpers, come to gather them, to take away their souls,

The Angels will say to them in reprimand:

‘Where is that which you were calling upon, worshipping, beside Allah so that they can help you?’

They will say:

‘They have gone astray from us’, they are not present before us, they have departed from us, they are too occupied with themselves to pay attention to us and so we cannot see them.

And they will bear witness against themselves, upon death, that they were disbelievers;

They testify against themselves that they were disbelievers in Allah and the messengers in the life of this world and hence they will be the losers in the Afterlife.

The meaning of verse 7:38

Allah, exalted be He, will say, to them, on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Enter into the Fire among, the number of, nations and communities of jinn and mankind who passed away before you’. Every time a community enters, the Fire, it curses its sister-community, the one that came before it, because of its having gone astray on account of it, until, when they have all followed, caught up with, one another there, the last of them, those who were the followers, shall say to the first of them, those whom they revered and followed: ‘Our Lord, these led us astray; so give them a double chastisement of the Fire.’ He, exalted be He, will say, ‘For each, of you and them, will be a double, chastisement, but you do not know’ what will be for each party.

In other words, when they have all, from the first to the last nation been made to follow one another thither and all gather in the Fire, the last of them, the last of nations will say unto the first of them:

Our Lord! These i.e. the leaders led us astray from Your religion and obedience, so give them double torment of the Fire; torment them with double what you inflict on us. Allah will say to them:

For each one there is double torment, but you do not know because of the severity of the torment.

Verses 7:37-38in different English translations of the meanings of Arabic Quran:

QARIB:

37) Who is more harmful than he who invents a lie about Allah or belies his verses? such shall have their share of the book, and when our messengers come to take them away, they shall say to them: ‘where now are those whom you invoked, other than Allah? ‘ ‘they have forsaken us, ‘ they will answer, and will bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers.

38) He will say: ‘enter the fire and join the nations of jinn and humans that have gone before you. ‘ as they enter, every nation will curse its sisternation, and when all are gathered in the pit, the last of them will say of the first: ‘these, lord, are those who led us astray. give them a double punishment of the fire. he will answer: ‘for each double, although you do not know it. ‘

SHAKIR:

37) Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah or rejects his communications? (as for) those, their portion of the book shall reach them, until when our messengers come to them causing them to die, they shall say: where is that which you used to call upon besides Allah? they would say: they are gone away from us; and they shall bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers

38) He will say: enter into fire among the nations that have passed away before you from among jinn and men; whenever a nation shall enter, it shall curse its sister, until when they have all come up with one another into it; the last of them shall say with regard to the foremost of them: our lord! these led us astray therefore give them a double chastisement of the fire. he will say: every one shall have double but you do not know

PICKTHAL:

37) Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah or denieth our tokens. (for such) their appointed portion of the book (of destiny) reacheth them till, when our messengers come to gather them, they say: where (now) is that to which ye cried beside Allah? they say: they have departed from us. and they testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.

38) He saith: enter into the fire among nations of the jinn and humankind who passed away before you. every time a nation entereth, it curseth its sister (nation) till, when they have all been made to follow one another thither, the last of them saith unto the first of them: our lord! these led us astray, so give them double torment of the fire. he saith: for each one there is double (torment), but ye know not.

YUSUFALI:

37) Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects his signs? for such, their portion appointed must reach them from the book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: “where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?” they will reply, “they have left us in the lurch,” and they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.

38) He will say: “enter ye in the company of the peoples who passed away before you – men and jinns, – into the fire.” every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other, all into the fire. saith the last about the first: “our lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a double penalty in the fire.” he will say: “doubled for all” : but this ye do not understand.
