Chapter 6 of the Quran (99) Alike but Unlike

It is Allah who produces palm-trees, olives, and pomegranates etc., alike, in terms of their colour, appearance and leaf and unlike, in terms of their taste and savour.  Eat of the fruit thereof when it ripens, and Pay the due thereof, the alms as appropriate, on the day of its harvest, that is, one tenth of it.

——————————————-

In the previous articles, we have seen how Satan deceived the idolators and put them on the path that leads finally to the Eternal Fire in the Afterlife.

Ayah 6:141 shows the straight path of Allah that leads ultimately to the Eternal Paradise in the Afterlife; it says:

And it is Allah Who creates and produces gardens and orchards which are:

Trellised and extending along the ground and spread out: i.e. not resting on trunks such as vines, watermelons and other vegetations, and

Untrellised and rising upwards on a stem that which rests on trunks such as walnuts, almonds and the date-palm.

It is Allah Who produces crops which are diverse in flavour, diverse in sweetness, diverse in sourness diverse in shape, diverse in savour of its fruit and diverse in their seeds.

It is Allah who produces palm-trees, olives, and pomegranates, alike, in terms of their colour, appearance and leaf and unlike, in terms of their taste and savour.

Eat of the fruit thereof when it ripens, before its maturity passes, and

Pay the due thereof, the alms as appropriate, on the day of its harvest, that is, one tenth of it, and

Do not be prodigal, by giving it all away, so that nothing remains for the consumption of your dependants.

Do not spend in disobedience of Allah nor prevent the obedience of Allah.

Truly, Allah does not love the prodigal, who overstep the bounds of that which He has delimited for them.

It is said that this verse was revealed about Thabit Ibn Qays who collected with his own hand the harvest of 500 palm-trees and gave it away, not leaving a thing for his own family.

The verse 6:141 in different translations

QARIB:

he brings forth gardens, trellised and untrellised, palmtrees and crops, different to eat, and the olive and pomegranates alike and unlike. when it bears fruit eat of it and pay what is due (the zakat) of it upon the harvest day. but do not be wasteful; he does not love the wasteful.

SHAKIR:

and he it is who produces gardens (of vine), trellised and untrellised, and palms and seed-produce of which the fruits were of various sorts, and olives and pomegranates, like and unlike; eat of its fruit when it bears fruit, and pay the due of it on the day of its reaping, and do not act extravagantly; surely he does not love the extravagant

PICKTHAL:

he it is who produceth gardens trellised and untrellised, and the date-palm, and crops of divers flavour, and the olive and the pomegranate, like and unlike. eat ye of the fruit thereof when it fruiteth, and pay the due thereof upon the harvest day, and be not prodigal. lo! Allah loveth not the prodigals.

YUSUFALI:

it is he who produceth gardens, with trellises and without, and dates, and tilth with produce of all kinds, and olives and pomegranates, similar (in kind) and different (in variety): eat of their fruit in their season, but render the dues that were proper on the day that the harvest is gathered. but waste not by excess: for Allah loveth not the wasters.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (38) Allah’s knowledge

None has the keys of the unseen save Allah; He knows in full details anything, everything, all things that happened, happens and will happen; all were written and recorded in the Preserved Tablet.

—————————————————————————————————-

Allah knows everything.

Ayah 6:59 talks about the knowledge of Allah in a simplified way; however, Allah’s knowledge is absolutely unlimited.

Ayah 6:59 says:

None has the keys of the unseen save Allah, exalted be He.

None knows the paths that lead to knowledge of of the unseen save Allah.

None knows when the Hour but Allah is.

Allah knows the treasure stores of the unseen: rain, vegetation, fruits, and the descent of punishment they asked for on the Day of Badr.(the first battle between the Muslims and the unbelievers of Mecca; read the previous article).

Allah knows what is happening, on land, in the deserts, and in the waters; He knows that which is in the land and sea of created beings and marvels; it is also said that this means: Allah knows what He destroys in the land and in the sea.

Not a leaf falls from a tree except He knows how many times it spins in the air before it falls.

And there is no grain in the shadows (darkness) of the earth, fresh or withered, nothing of wet or dry but is recorded in a clear book namely, the Preserved Tablet.

Everything is written in the Guarded Tablet with their precise measure and time.

In short, Allah knows in full details anything, everything, all things that happened, happens and will happen; all were written and recorded in the Guarded Tablet

The verses 6:59 in different translations

QARIB:

With Him were the keys of the unseen, none knows them but He. He knows that which is in the land and sea. No leaf falls except he knows it, and there is no grain in the darkness of the earth, fresh or withered, but is recorded in a clear book.

SHAKIR:

And with Him were the keys of the unseen treasures– none knows them but he; and he knows what is in the land and the sea, and there falls not a leaf but he knows it, nor a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything green nor dry but (it is all) in a clear book.

PICKTHAL:

And with Him were the keys of the invisible. None but he knoweth them. And he knoweth what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falleth but he knoweth it, not a grain amid the darkness of the earth, naught of wet or dry but (it is noted) in a clear record.

YUSUFALI:

With Him were the keys of the unseen, the treasures that none knoweth but he. He knoweth wver there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf doth fall but with his knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry (green or withered), but is (inscribed) in a record clear (to those who can read).
