Angels in Islam (4) their extremely huge size

The size of the Angels is outstandingly very huge.

An Angel’s length is more than 45 thousand times the diameter of the Earth and more than 400 times the diameter of the Sun!

It is funny to see the picture of an Angel in the western media; they portray the Angel as if a little beautiful boy with two little wings.

Such picture is very far from the truth.
Allah says concerning the appointed Angels of Hell
“O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is men and stones, over which are Angels stern and severe, who flinch not (from executing) the commands they receive from Allah, but do (precisely) what they are commanded.” [The verse 66:6, see the appendix but remember that it is addressed to the believers!]
The greatest of all the Angels is Jibreel (Gabriel) peace is upon him who was described in many report and we will discuss them later on.

Among the greatest Angels are those who carry the Throne (of Allah), who were described in the following Hadith:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah  be upon him) said: ‘

“I have been given permission to speak about one of the Angels of Allah who carry the Throne. The distance between his ear-lobes and his shoulders is equivalent to a seven-hundred-year journey.’”

In another Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad said:

“I have been granted permission to speak about one of the Angels of Allah, one of the bearers of the Throne. The distance from his earlobes to his shoulders is the distance of a seven – hundred year journey.”

In a third Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad said:

“I have been granted permission to speak to an angel, one of the bearers of the Throne. The distance from his earlobe to his shoulder is like that of a bird flying for seven hundred years. That angel says, ‘Glory be to You, wherever You are.”

Considering that the distance of a bird flying during his migratory journey is about 150 kilometers per day, then the distance from the earlobe to the shoulder of the above Angel is 38,325,000 km i.e. more than 38 million kilometers.

In this case the length of such angel is about 574,875,000 km i.e. more than 500 million kilometers (more than half a billion km).

This means that the above Angel is 45,067 times the diameter of the Earth!

This also indicates that this Angel is 412 times the diameter of the Sun!

Appendix:

The verse 66:6 in four different translations:

QARIB:

Believers, guard yourselves and your families against the fire the fuel of which is people and stones, over which there are harsh, and stern Angels who never disobey Allah in that which he orders and do what they are ordered.

SHAKIR:

O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it are Angels stern and strong, they do not disobey Allah in what he commands them, and do as they are commanded

PICKTHAL:

O ye who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a fire whereof the fuel is men and stones, over which are set Angels strong, severe, who resist not Allah in that which he commandeth them, but do that which they are commanded.

YUSUFALI:

O ye who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) Angels stern (and) severe, who flinch not (from executing) the commands they receive from Allah, but do (precisely) what they are commanded.

This is Allah (50) Allah’s Mercy is Near to the Righteous

Allah Does Not Love the Aggressors in Their Supplications

How To Call Upon Allah? Openly or in Secret; in Fear or in Hope?

Could Allah Have Created the Heavens and the Earth in an Instant Instead of Six Days?

Thorne in English and Arsh in Arabic

The Stars, the Sun, and the Moon Have Been Made Subservient by Allah’s Command

————————————————

This series is an attempt to help you to know  Allah your Creator.

Verses 7:54-56 of the Noble Quran talk about:

1) Allah’s Mercy is near to the righteous,

2) Allah does not love the aggressors in their supplications,

3) How to call upon Allah? Openly or in secret; in fear or in hope?,

4) Could Allah have created the heavens and the earth in an instant instead of six days? And

5) the stars, the sun, and the moon have been made subservient by Allah’s command.

The meaning of verses 7:54-56

The meaning of verse 7:54

Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, each day the equivalent of a thousand years. Had He willed He could have created them in an instant; but the reason for His not having done so is that He wanted to teach His creatures to be circumspect.

Then Allah presided upon the Throne, a presiding befitting of Him.

He cloaks the night with the day, that is, He covers each one with the other: each following the other in swift pursuit, i.e. the day is in haste to follow the night and the night is in haste to follow the day,

And the sun and the moon and the stars have been made subservient, have been subdued, by His command, by His power.

His verily is all creation, the creation of the heavens and the earth (and what are between them) and His verily is all the commandments i.e. the judgment of people on the Day of Judgment.

Blessed, Magnified, be Allah, the Possessor of grace; it is also said that this means: elevated is Allah; as it is said that this means: far exalted is Allah, the Lord, the Master of the Worlds!

The meaning of verse 7:55

O mankind! Call upon your Lord respectfully openly and in secret.  In other words, call upon your Lord humbly, in subservience, and quietly, in secret. Truly, He does not love the aggressors, who are braggarts and loud-mouthed in their supplications.  In other words, He does not love the aggressors, in their supplications, by calling for that which is not permissible for them against the righteous.

The meaning of verse 7:56

And work not corruption in the land, through idolatry, sins and invitation to other than Allah and acts of disobedience, after it has been set right, as a result of the sending forth of messengers to it, and call upon Him, worship Him in fear, of His punishment and His torment, and in hope, of His mercy that you shall enter His Paradise. Surely the mercy of Allah is near to the virtuous, the obedient.  In other words, Lo! the mercy of Allah, the Paradise of Allah is nigh unto the good, the believers who are good in their words and works.

54) Surely your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and he is firm in power; he throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (he created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by his command; surely his is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds

55) Call on your Lord humbly and secretly; surely he does not love those who exceed the limits

56) And do not make mischief in the earth after its reformation, and call on him fearing and hoping; surely the mercy of Allah is nigh to those who do good (to others)

54) Lo! Your Lord is Allah who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then mounted he the throne. he covereth the night with the day, which is in haste to follow it, and hath made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by his command. his verily is all creation and commandment. blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds!

55) (O mankind!) call upon your Lord humbly and in secret. lo! he loveth not aggressors.

56) Work not confusion in the earth after the fair ordering (thereof). and call on him in fear and hope. lo! the mercy of Allah is nigh unto the good.

YUSUFALI:

54) Your guardian-Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): he draweth the night as a veil o’er the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession: he created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under his command. is it not his to create and to govern? blessed be Allah, the cherisher and sustainer of the worlds!

55) Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds.

56) Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good.

N.B.:

Arsh in the classical Arabic language is throne,

Al- Arsh means the throne

Literally, Al- Arsh means the elevated seat on which a king sits.
