Atheists in Quran (47) when they wish they were dust

The punishment endured by the unbelievers originates from Allah’s mercy. For it is certainly part of mercy that evildoer should be punished and that it should not have the same end as the righteous. Lo! Allah is warning you O Atheists of a doom at hand, which will surely happen, a day whereon every Atheist will sadly cry: “Would that I were dust!”

———————————————–

The meanings of the verses 78:38-40 of the Noble Quran:

On the day when Gabriel, and the angels stand arrayed.

Frightful Silence!

The scene shows total silence; none dares to talk, everyone is looking around awaiting for his fate.

None will not speak, except him whom Allah permits to speak from among the believers and the angels.

The one who speaks from among the believers will say what is right.

On the day when the angels and Gabriel stand arrayed, they speak not to intercede, saving him whom Allah allows to intercede and speak right

That is the True Day, the Day of Resurrection, whose happening is definite

So whoever wishes to, let him come to Allah by being believing and obedient to Him, so that he may be secure from chastisement in it.

Lo! We have warned you, O Atheists, of a the chastisement of the impending Day of Resurrection when every person, will behold what his hands have sent ahead, of good and evil, and the Atheist will say, ‘O would that I were dust!’

In other words,

Lo! Allah is warning you O Atheists of a doom at hand, which will surely happen,

A day whereon every man will look

When the believer will look

When the Atheist will look

They both will look on that which their own hands have:

Sent before

Earned of good

Earned of evil

Then every Atheist will sadly cry:

“Would that I were dust!”

Why Atheist says that? Because of the horrors, severity and torment of that day.

——————–

When Punishment = Mercy

Allah is the Supreme Lord; He is the Most Gracious. He metes out reward for believers and punishment for unbelievers.

The reward He assigns is a manifestation of His mercy.

In addition, the punishment endured by the unbelievers originates from Allah’s mercy. For it is certainly part of mercy that evildoer should be punished and that it should not have the same end as the righteous.

In Allah’s Presence

The verse unveil the unseen and describes the scene of the day when the great angel Gabriel, and all the angels standing in ranks before Allah; they greatly esteem Him; no one dares utter a word without prior permission from Him.

In this awesome situation, neither man nor angel can speak without Allah’s permission.

Whatever said will be right because Allah does not permit anyone to speak whom He knows will not be saying what is right.

Back to the Angels, the pure sinless great creatures whom does Allah favor,

When we think that the angels dare not speak without His permission, we are bound to feel how overwhelming the situation is.

Having driven such a feeling, the verse conveys a threatening to the Atheists who have chosen not to hear or see

“That day is a certainty. Let him who will seek a way back to his Lord. We have forewarned you of an imminent scourge, on the day when man will look on what his hands have forwarded and the unbeliever will cry: ‘Would that I were dust!”

Those who raise doubts and question the reality of the Day of Resurrection are here shaken violently:

“That day is a certainty.”

There is no room left for doubt and controversy. Yet there is time for mending one’s erring ways before the fearful watch guard, i.e. hell, becomes a permanent home:

“Let him who will seek a way back to his Lord.”

The warning is severe enough to make the drunken awake:

“We have forewarned you of an imminent scourge.”

It will not be long coming, for man’s life is but a short period.

The scourge is so fearful that the unbelievers, when faced with it, will send up that great cry expressing the wish that they had never lived:

“On the day when man will look on what his hands have forwarded and the unbeliever will cry: ‘Would that I were dust!”

This is the cry of the one who is in great distress, who feels ashamed for what he has been and what he has done. He feels that it is better not to be, or to be something as worthless as dust, than to witness such a fearful occasion.

The terrible position of the unbelievers is the subject of the questions and doubts they raise concerning that fateful tiding.

The verses 78:38-40 in different translations:

QARIB:

38-On that day, when the spirit (gabriel) and the angels stand in ranks they shall not speak, except he to whom the merciful has given permission, and says what is right.

39-That is the day, the truth, so whosoever wills takes a way to his Lord.

40-Indeed, we have forewarned you of an imminent punishment, the day when the person will look upon his works and the unbelievers will say: ‘would that i were dust! ‘

SHAKIR:

38-The day on which the spirit and the angels shall stand in ranks; they shall not speak except he whom the beneficent Allah permits and who speaks the right thing

39-That is the sure day, so whoever desires may take refuge with his Lord

40-Surely we have warned you of a chastisement near at hand: the day when man shall see what his two hands have sent before, and the unbeliever shall say: o! would that i were dust!

PICKTHAL:

38-On the day when the angels and the spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.

39-That is the true day. so whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.

40-Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: “would that i were dust!”

YUSUFALI:

38-The day that the spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) most gracious, and he will say what is right.

39-That day will be the sure reality: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord!

40-Verily, we have warned you of a penalty near, the day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the unbeliever will say, “woe unto me! would that i were (metre) dust!”

Allah asks you (20) have you any knowledge that God is satisfied with…?

If Allah had willed, He could have guided all of you to His religion, but He is testing you

Allah’ Chastisement will never be withdrawn from guilty folk in the next life

Allah is the Lord of all-embracing mercy towards the pious and sinner alike

—————————————————

In verse 39:9, Allah is asking mankind this question:

Have you any clarification regarding what you ascribed unto Him as partners, and what you describe as unlawful; Have you any knowledge, that God is satisfied with this, such that you can adduce for us?

You follow only supposition, you do but guess; you just lie.

In verse 6:147-149, Allah asks mankind this question:

You follow only supposition, you do but guess; you just lie.

Verses 6:147-149 give the question of this article and talk about it

The meanings of the verses 6:147-149

Verse 6:147 says:

So if they deny you, with regard to what you have brought,

If they give the lie to you O Muhammad regarding the prohibitions that Allah described to you,

Say: Your Lord is a Lord of all-embracing mercy towards the pious and sinner alike, in that He defers torment to the next life,

And His wrath, His torment will never be withdrawn from guilty folk, the idolaters.

And His might, His chastisement, when it comes, will never be driven back from the sinning folk’.

Verse 6:148 says:

The idolaters will say, ‘Had Allah willed, we had not ascribed unto Him partners; we would not have been idolaters, neither had our fathers nor had we forbidden aught of crops and cattle, but this has been commanded and forbidden for us.

In other words, our idolatry and our forbidding [of things] are by His will, and so He must be satisfied with it.

God, exalted be He, says: So, in the same way that they are liars, those who were before them gave the lie, to their prophets, until they tasted Our might, Our chastisement.

Say O Muhammad: Have you any clarification regarding what you describe as unlawful; Have you any knowledge, that God is satisfied with this, such that you can adduce for us?, that is, you have no such knowledge.

You follow only supposition, in this matter, merely guessing’, telling lies therein

Lo! You follow naught but an opinion, your prohibition of crops and cattle is nothing but surmise. (Lo! You do but guess) you just lie.

Verse 6:149 says:

Say to them, O Muhammad, if you do not have any definitive argument for your claim, then For Allah’s is the final, the conclusive and the perfect argument, the most firm argument.  Had He willed He could indeed have guided all of you to His religion

—————————————————

Verses 6:147-149 in different translations:

QARIB:

147) If they belie you, say: ‘your Lord is the owner of all encompassing mercy, but his might cannot be withheld from the nation, the evildoers. ‘

148) The idolaters will say: ‘had Allah willed, neither we nor our fathers would have associated (idols), nor would we have forbidden anything. as such, those who have gone before them belied until they tasted our might. Say: ‘have you any knowledge you can bring forth to us? You follow nothing but guessing and you are only speakers of conjecture. ‘

149) Say: ‘Allah alone has the conclusive proof. had he willed, he would have guided you all. ‘

SHAKIR:

147) But if they give you the lie, then say: your lord is the lord of all-encompassing mercy; and his punishment cannot be averted from the guilty people

148) Those who are polytheists will say: if Allah had pleased we would not have associated (aught with him) nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden (to ourselves) anything; even so did those before them reject until they tasted our punishment. Say: have you any knowledge with you so you should bring it forth to us? You only follow a conjecture and you only tell lies

149) Say: then Allah’s is the conclusive argument; so if he please, he would certainly guide you all

PICKTHAL:

147) So if they give the lie to thee (Muhammad), say: your lord is a lord of all-embracing mercy, and his wrath will never be withdrawn from guilty folk.

148) They who are idolaters will say: had Allah willed, we had not ascribed (unto him) partners neither had our fathers, nor had we forbidden aught. thus did those who were before them give the lie (to Allah’s messengers) till they tasted of the fear of us. Say: have ye any knowledge that ye can adduce for us? Lo! Ye follow naught but an opinion, lo! Ye do but guess.

149) Say – for Allah’s is the final argument – had he willed he could indeed have guided all of you.

YUSUFALI:

147) If they accuse thee of falsehood, say: “your lord is full of mercy all-embracing; but from people in guilt never will his wrath be turned back.

148) Those who give partners (to Allah) will say: “if Allah had wished, we should not have given partners to him nor would our fathers; nor should we have had any taboos.” so did their ancestors argue falsely, until they tasted of our wrath. Say: “have ye any (certain) knowledge? If so, produce it before us. Ye follow nothing but conjecture: ye do nothing but lie.”

149) Say: “with Allah is the argument that reaches home: if it had been his will, he could indeed have guided you all.”

Who is the Lord and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?

Do you take protectors other than the Lord?

Are the blind equals with those who see?

Are the depths of darkness equal with Light?”

Do they assign to Allah partners who have created anything as He has created?

In verse 13:16, Allah asks mankind especially the disbelievers five questions and He gives their answers:

The five questions in verse 13:16 are:

1) Who is the Lord and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?

2) Do you then take (for worship) protectors other than Him, such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?

3) Are the blind equal with those who see?

4) Are the depths of darkness equal with Light?

5) do they assign to Allah partners who have created (anything) as He has created, so that the creation seemed to them similar?

The answers of these five questions are:

Say: It is Allah; He is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of all things: He is the One, the Supreme and Irresistible.

——————————————————

The meanings of verse 13:16

Say O Muhammad to your people:

Who is the Lord, who is the Creator of the heaven and the earth? if they answer and say Allah, then fine;

if not, Say: Allah is their Creator!

Say O Muhammad:

Do you then take to worship others beside Allah?

Do you then take protectors other than Allah?

Do you then take lords from among idols, which, even for themselves, have neither benefit nor hurt, neither procuring benefit nor driving away harm?

They have no power to benefit or harm themselves

Say to them, O Muhammad:

Is the blind man equal to the seer?

Is the unbeliever equal to the believer?

Is darkness equal to light? (The disbelief and faith)

Is the disbeliever and the believer, equal?

Do they assign or describe unto Allah partners from among idols?

Do their partners create creation the like of His creation so that the creation (which they made and His creation seemed alike to them?

And they do not distinguish Allah’s creation from the creation of their idols?

Say O Muhammad: Allah is the Creator of all things while their idols have created nothing; and He is the One, the Almighty.

He is All-Conquering above His created beings.

Say: It is Allah; He is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of all things: He is the One, the Supreme and Irresistible, the Subjugator of His servants.

Verse 13:16 in different translations:

Say: ‘who is the lord of the heavens and the earth? say: ‘Allah. ‘say: ‘why then have you chosen guardians other than him, even though they have neither the power to benefit nor harm themselves? ‘ say: ‘are the blind and the seeing equal? are darkness and light equal? or, have they ascribed to Allah associates who create as he creates so that all creation is alike to them?” say: ‘Allah is the creator of everything. he is the one, the conqueror. ‘

SHAKIR:

Say: who is the lord of the heavens and the earth?  say: Allah. say: do you take then besides him guardians who do not control any profit or harm for themselves? say: are the blind and the seeing alike? or can the darkness and the light be equal? or have they set up with Allah associates who have created creation like his, so that what is created became confused to them? say: Allah is the creator of all things, and he is the one, the supreme

PICKTHAL:

Say (O Muhammad): who is lord of the heavens and the earth? say: Allah. say: take ye then (others) beside him for protectors, which, even for themselves, have neither benefit nor hurt? say: is the blind man equal to the seer, or is darkness equal to light? or assign they unto Allah partners who created the like of his creation so that the creation (which they made and his creation) seemed alike to them? say: Allah is the creator of all things, and he is the one, the almighty.

Allah is Asks you (16) who is greater in evil than those who invent a lie against Allah–C

The likeness of the disbelievers and the believers in the Quran

The Criteria of the Believers in the Quran

————————————————————-

In a previous article, Allah is asking mankind this question: has Muhammad invented the Quran?

Then Allah challenged those who said that to bring 200 Arabic words the like thereof of the Quran.

In this article, Allah said: who is greater in evil than those who invent a lie against Allah?

Then He said: the likeness of the believers and the disbelievers is as the blind and the deaf and the seeing and the hearing: are they equal when compared? Will you not remember?

In the Noble Quran, Allah is asking mankind some important questions.

It seems compulsory for the serious one who is looking for the truth to have a look at those questions and if possible to answer them.

Allah’ questions are many.  In this series, these questions are chosen randomly.

————————————————————-

We have seen that the Verses 11:18-19, as we have seen before, give this question: Who is greater in evil and who does greater wrong than he who invented a lie concerning Allah?

Also, we have seen that the Verses 11:20-22, as we have seen in the previous article) describe how and why they are the great losers those who invent a lie against Allah

What is a lie against Allah?

To ascribe to Him partner, equivalent and/or a son,

To claim that you are a prophet while you are not,

To claim that you have got Revealed Scripture while you do not,

To claim that Muhammad is not a Prophet although He is, and

To claim that the Quran is not the book Revealed by Allah

Verses 11:23-24 give the question of this article:

The likeness of the believers and the disbelievers is as the blind and the deaf and the seeing and the hearing: are they equal when compared? Will you not remember?

————————————————————-

The meanings of the verses 11:23-24

Verse 11:23 says:

Truly those who believe in Muhammad and in the Quran and

They Perform righteous deeds and do acts of obedience between themselves and their Lord

They humble themselves before their Lord,

They are at peace and feel reassured, and

They are sincere and surrendered to their Lord

They repent, before their Lord,

Such will be the inhabitants of Paradise, abiding therein.

Such are rightful owners of the Paradise; they will abide therein forever!

Verse 11:24 says:

The likeness, the description, of the two parties, the disbelievers and the believers, is as the blind and the deaf, this being the likeness of the disbeliever, and the one who sees and the one who hears, this being the likeness of the believer, are they equal in likeness? No! Will you not then remember?

In other words, the similitude of the two parties, the believer and the disbeliever (is as the blind and the deaf), the disbeliever is like the blind person: he does not see the Truth or guidance, and he is also like the deaf person: he does not hear the Truth or guidance,

And the disbeliever is like the seer and the hearer person

For he sees the Truth and guidance, just as he is like the hearer, for he hears the Truth and guidance.

Are they equal in similitude?

Are the believer and disbeliever equal in obedience and reward?

Will ye not then be admonished?

Will you not be admonished by the similes of the Quran such that you believe?

————————————————————-

Verses 11:23-24 in different translations:

QARIB:

23) Whereas those who believe and do good deeds and humble themselves before their lord, they are the companions of paradise, and there they shall live for ever.

24) The likeness of the two parties is as one who is blind and deaf, and one that sees and hears, are they equally alike, will you not remember?

SHAKIR:

23) Surely (as to) those who believe and do good and humble themselves to their lord, these are the dwellers of the garden, in it they will abide

24) The likeness of the two parties is as the blind and the deaf and the seeing and the hearing: are they equal in condition? Will you not then mind?

PICKTHAL:

23) Lo! Those who believe and do good works and humble themselves before their lord: such are rightful owners of the garden; they will abide therein.

24) The similitude of the two parties is as the blind and the deaf and the seer and the hearer. are they equal in similitude? Will ye not then be admonished?

YUSUFALI:

23) But those who believe and work righteousness, and humble themselves before their lord,- they will be companions of the gardens, to dwell therein for aye!

24) These two kinds (of men) may be compared to the blind and deaf, and those who can see and hear well. Are they equal when compared? Will ye not then take heed?

The torment will be double for the leaders for their having led others astray

What is waiting for those who invent a lie against Allah?

Severe chastisement of Allah is upon them on the Day of Resurrection and they will dwell in the Eternal Fire.  Herein, Allah describes how and why they are the great losers.

————————————————————-

Verses 11:20-22 describe how and why they are the great losers those who invent a lie against Allah

The meanings of the verse 11:20:

They will not escape Allah’s chastisement,

Nor have they any protecting friends to protect them from Allah.

They have no allies, no helpers to protect them against His chastisement.

For their leaders (who betrayed them), the torment will be double.

In other words, chastisement will be double, for their having led others astray.

They could not hear, the truth, nor did they use to see, it; that is to say, because of their extreme aversion to it,

They could not bear to hear the words of Muhammad out of hatred for him;

It is also said that this means: theirs is a double torment because they could not hear the words of Muhammad,

And they used not to see, they did not look at Muhammad out of hatred;

It is also said that this means: they used not to see Muhammad out of their hatred for him.

The meanings of the verse 11:21:

Such are they who have lost their souls, for their journey’s end shall be to the Eternal Fire, made everlasting for them; and that which they used to invent, [of lies] concerning Allah, in the way of their claim(s)

Why they have lost their souls?

Because they have lost their dwelling place in the paradise!

How they have lost their dwelling place in the paradise?

Allah made for every soul a dwelling place in the paradise and another dwelling place in the Eternal Fire.

The disbelievers will dwell in their places in the Eternal Fire

The believers will dwell in their places in the paradise

What about the dwelling places in the paradise that made for the disbelievers?

The believers will inherit their dwelling places

What about the dwelling places in the Eternal Fire that made for the believers?

The disbelievers will inherit their dwelling places

Fair is fair!

The meanings of the verse 11:22:

Without doubt, verily, they will be the greatest losers in the Hereafter.

They have lost their dwelling places in the Paradise and that which is in it.

20) They are unable to frustrate him on the earth; there is none to protect them, except Allah. Those, their punishment shall be doubled; they could neither hear nor see.

21) Those are they that have lost their souls, and that which they forged has left them;

22) Without doubt they will be the greatest losers in the everlasting life.

SHAKIR:

20) These shall not escape in the earth, nor shall they have any guardians besides Allah; the punishment shall be doubled for them, they could not bear to hear and they did not see

21) These are they who have lost their souls, and what they forged is gone from them

22) Truly in the hereafter they are the greatest losers

PICKTHAL:

20) Such will not escape in the earth, nor have they any protecting friends beside Allah. for them the torment will be double. They could not bear to hear, and they used not to see.

21) Such are they who have lost their souls, and that which they used to invent hath failed them.

22) Assuredly in the hereafter they will be the greatest losers.

YUSUFALI:

20) They will in no wise frustrate (his design) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! their penalty will be doubled! They lost the power to hear, and they did not see!

21) They are the ones who have lost their own souls: and the (fancies) they invented have left them in the lurch!

22) Without a doubt, these are the very ones who will lose most in the hereafter!
