Do you know the Angels?

Allah has created things of which you have no knowledge (the verse 16:8)

What are the Angels?

They are the hosts of the heavens and the servants of Allah (the verse 48:7)

Who has created the Angels?

Allah who is ever Mighty in His kingdom and Wise in His actions (the verse 48:7)

 

How many Angels has Allah created; what is their number?

He increases the creation as He wills (the verse 35:1)

 

Certainly, Muslims have no knowledge of precisely when the Angels were created, because there is no verse in the Quran to tell us this.

However, Muslims do know for sure that they were created before Mankind.

Also, Muslims know for certain that the number of Angels is much more than the number of human beings.

The Angels are many, and their number is known only to Allah who created them.

The Prophet Muhammad said, describing the Much-Frequented Visited House that is present in the heaven:

“Then I was taken up to the Much-Frequented Visited House: every day seventy thousand Angels visit it and leave, never returning to it again, another [group] coming after them.”

The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, said: ‘Hell will be brought forth that day (the Last Day) by means of seventy thousand ropes, each of which will be pulled by seventy thousand Angels.”

Angels are the most numerous kind of creation of Allah. There are more Angels than the other creations of Allah, including the humans and jinn–even the trees.

Also, the Prophet Muhammad said:

There is no space equivalent to the width of four fingers in the sky except one would find an Angel mentioning (worshipping) Allah–either standing, bowing or prostrating. They stay as such worshipping Allah until the Day of Judgment.

There are countless numbers of Angels, and only Allah knows how many there are.

The verse 16:8

QARIB:

…and He creates what you do not know.

SHAKIR:

…and He creates what you do not know

PICKTHAL:

…and He createth that which ye know not.

YUSUFALI:

…and He has created (other) things of which ye have no knowledge.

 

The verse 48:7

QARIB:

To Allah belong the armies of the heavens and the earth. Allah is the almighty and the wise.

SHAKIR:

And Allah’s are the hosts of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is mighty, wise

PICKTHAL:

Allah’s are the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is ever mighty, wise.

YUSUFALI:

For to Allah belong the forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is exalted in power, full of wisdom.

 

The verse 35:1

QARIB:

…He increases the creation as he wills…

SHAKIR:

… He increases in creation what he pleases…

PICKTHAL:

… He multiplieth in creation what he will…

YUSUFALI:

… He adds to creation as he pleases…

Verses 28:76-83 of the Noble Quran are talking about “Qaroun”, Moses’ cousin, who was very rich man. He was corrupter in the earth in the earth through his disdain, haughtiness and great wealth.

Verses 28:82-83 are talking about what those who had longed to be in his place said after Allah’s torment to Qaroun.  The sequel, Paradise, is for those who ward off evil, those who ward off disbelief, those who fear, God’s punishment, by performing deeds of obedience.

The story of Qaroun, Moses’ cousin is mentioned in the previous articles when talking about the verses  28:76-81 of the Noble Quran.

Furthermore, the verse 28:82-83 continue narrating this story.

 

Verse 28:82 says:

And those who had longed to be in his place, who had coveted his place, his status, standing and wealth the day before, were crying to one another were saying,

it is not as Qaroun said, i.e. that his wealth was his own doing, but rather Allah enlarges the provision for whom He will of His slaves and in the case of Qaroun such wealth was a lure to perdition, and straitened it, for whom He will out of care for the person. 

‘Alas! God expands provision for whomever He will of His servants and straitens it, He restricts it for whomever He will

If Allah had not been gracious unto us, and withheld from us what He gave him,

He would have caused it to swallow us also as it swallowed Qaroun.

‘Alas! The disbelievers never prosper; they will never be safe from Allah’s torment.

Lo! Indeed those who are ungrateful, for God’s grace, such as Qaroun, never prosper.

 

Verse 28:83 says

As for that Abode of the Hereafter, namely, Paradise, which Allah shall grant to those who do not desire to be haughty in the earth, through insolence, or to cause corruption, by committing acts of disobedience.

Allah assigns Paradise unto those who do not seek oppression and haughtiness in the earth through their wealth,

And the, praiseworthy, the sequel, Paradise, is for those who ward off evil, those who ward off disbelief, idolatry, haughtiness and corruption in the earth.

And it will be for those who fear, God’s punishment, by performing deeds of obedience.

Verses 28:82-83 in different translations

QARIB:

82) And in the morning those who had wished to be in his place the previous evening said: ‘indeed, Allah outspreads to whom he will among his worshipers, and he restrains. had he not shown us favor, he could have caused the earth to swallow us. indeed, the unbelievers shall never prosper. ‘

83) That is the last abode, we shall assign it to those who desire neither exorbitance in the earth, nor corruption. the outcome is for the cautious.

 

SHAKIR:

82) And those who yearned for his place only the day before began to say: ah! (know) that Allah amplifies and straitens the means of subsistence for whom he pleases of his servants; had not Allah been gracious to us, he would most surely have abased us; ah! (know) that the ungrateful are never successful

83) (As for) that future abode, we assign it to those who have no desire to exalt themselves in the earth nor to make mischief and the good end is for those who guard (against evil)

 

PICKTHAL:

82) And morning found those who had coveted his place but yesterday crying: ah, welladay! Allah enlargeth the provision for whom he will of his slaves and straiteneth it (for whom he will). if Allah had not been gracious unto us he would have caused it to swallow us (also). ah, welladay! the disbelievers never prosper.

83) As for that abode of the hereafter we assign it unto those who seek not oppression in the earth, nor yet corruption. the sequel is for those who ward off (evil).

 

YUSUFALI:

82) And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: “ah! it is indeed Allah who enlarges the provision or restricts it, to any of his servants he pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, he could have caused the earth to swallow us up! ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper.”

83) That home of the hereafter we shall give to those who intend not high-handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous.

Allah Asks you (19) Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?

Allah asks: Is he who devotes himself in worship to be counted equal to the disbeliever?

Allah says: Only people of understanding acknowledge the Wisdom of the Quran

Allah says: Dwell in your disbelief in this life then Dwell in the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter

In verse 39:9, Allah is asking mankind these two questions:

1) Is one who worships devoutly during the hours of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord, (like one who does not)? Say:

2) Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?

Then Allah says: It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition”

In the Noble Quran, Allah is asking mankind some important questions.

It seems compulsory for the serious one who is looking for the truth to have a look at those questions and if possible to answer them.

Allah’ questions are many. In this series, these questions are chosen randomly.

In verse 39:9, Allah asks mankind especially these two questions:

1) Is one who worships devoutly during the hours of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord, (like one who does not)?

2) Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?

It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition”

Verses 39:8-9 give the question of this article and talk about it

The meanings of the verses 39:8-9

Verse 39:8 says:

And when some hurt, hardship, distress and trial befalls a person, that is, the disbeliever,

He cries unto his Lord, supplicates his Lord, he implores, turning, returning, to Him penitently to lift away the hardship and trial. Then, when He bestows on him a grace from Himself,

When He grants him,

He forgets that for which he cried unto Him before) before the blessing,

He neglects, Him Whom he had supplicated, implored, before, namely, God and sets up equals, associates, with God, that he may lead [others] astray from His way

He sets up rivals and equals to Allah that he may beguile other people from His way, from His religion and obedience.

Say: Take pleasure in your disbelief; dwell in your disbelief for a while, a little in the life of this world.

Say: ‘Revel in your ingratitude for a while, for the remainder of your term [of life].

You shall indeed be among the inhabitants of the Eternal Fire’.

Verse 39:9 says:

Is he who:

1) Pays adoration, 

2) Devotes himself in worship,

3) Observes duties of obedience,

4) Obeys Allah, in the watches of the night, in the hours of the night, prostrate and standing in prayer, bewaring of the Hereafter, fearing its chastisement, fearing the torment of the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, and hoping for the Garden of his Lord, the Paradise of his Lord

5) To be counted equal to the disbeliever?

Say to them, O Muhammad:

Are those who know Allah’s divine Oneness and Allah’s commands and prohibitions, equal in reward and acts of obedience with those who do not know Allah’s divine Oneness or Allah’s commands and prohibitions?

But only men of understanding, only those possessed of intellect among people will pay heed, will take admonition from the wisdom of the Quran.

Only people of pith remember the knowledge of the Quran.

Verses 39:8-9 in different translations:

QARIB:

8) When an affliction befalls a human, he supplicates to his lord and turns to him (in repentance) yet, no sooner does he bestow on him his blessing than he forgets that for which he had just supplicated and sets up associates with Allah in order to lead (people) away from his path. say: ‘enjoy your disbelief for awhile, you shall surely be among the companions of the fire.

9) or, is he who is obedient that prostrates himself and stands during parts of the night, being afraid of the everlasting life but hoping for the mercy of the lord (to be compared to the unbeliever)? ‘Say: ‘are they equal, those who know and those who do not know? ‘Only those with minds remember.

 

SHAKIR:

8) And when distress afflicts a man he calls upon his lord turning to him frequently; then when he makes him possess a favor from him, he forgets that for which he called upon him before, and sets up rivals to Allah that he may cause (men) to stray off from his path. say: enjoy yourself in your ungratefulness a little, surely you are of the inmates of the fire

9) What! He, who is obedient during hours of the night, prostrating himself and standing, takes care of the hereafter and hopes for the mercy of his lord! say: are those who know and those who do not know alike? Only the men of understanding are mindful

 

PICKTHAL:

8) And when some hurt toucheth man, he crieth unto his lord, turning unto him (repentant). then, when he granteth him a boon from him he forgetteth that for which he cried unto him before, and setteth up rivals to Allah that he may beguile (men) from his way. say (O Muhammad, unto such an one): take pleasure in thy disbelief a while. lo! Thou art of the owners of the fire.

9) is he who payeth adoration in the watches of the night, prostrate and standing, bewaring of the hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his lord, (to be accounted equal with a disbeliever)? say (unto them, O Muhammad): are those who know equal with those who know not? but only men of understanding will pay heed.

 

YUSUFALI:

8) When some trouble toucheth man, he crieth unto his lord, turning to him in repentance: but when he bestoweth a favour upon him as from himself, (man) doth forget what he cried and prayed for before, and he doth set up rivals unto Allah, thus misleading others from Allah’s path. Say, “enjoy thy blasphemy for a little while: verily thou art (one) of the companions of the fire!”

9) Is one who worships devoutly during the hour of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the hereafter, and who places his hope in the mercy of his lord – (like one who does not)? Say: “are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition.

Allah loves (3) those who guard against evil

Allah loves those who keep their promise

The Trustworthiness and Treachery of the followers of the Scripture

Verse 3:75 of the Quran talks about the trustworthiness and treachery of the followers of the Scripture, some are honest and the others are dishonest.

Verse 3:76 honors those who keep their promise and says that Allah loves those who guard against evil.

The verse 3:75 means:

In this verse, Allah mentions the trustworthiness and treachery of the people of the Book, saying:

Among the People of the Scripture there is he who, if you trust him with a weight of treasure (with a hundredweight, that is, with much money), will return it to you without any problem, hardship or ever thinking to keep it for himself by declaring it lawful for him to take.

And among them there is he who, if you trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to you and will declare it lawful for him to take unless you keep standing over him insisting on taking it back and suing him for it.

That treachery and declaring that it is lawful to take other people’s property is because they say: We have no duty to the Gentiles; there is no harm in taking the property of Arabs.

In other words, that refusal to return things, is because they say, ‘we have no duty towards, the Gentiles’, the Arabs; for they considered it lawful to be unjust towards any person of a different religion, and they attributed [the source of] this conviction to God, exalted be He.

They speak a lie concerning Allah knowingly;

They lie about Allah and know that they are lying.

The verse 3:76 means:

Nay, there is a duty incumbent over them in this regard; but whoever fulfills his covenant, the one he has made or the covenant of God, by restoring a trust and other such things, and has fear, of God, by refraining from disobedience and performing deeds of obedience, for truly Allah loves the God-fearing: ‘He loves them’ means that He will reward them in the afterlife.

Verse 3:75-76 in different translations:

QARIB:

75) Among the people of the book there are some, who, if you trust him with a “qintar” (98,841.6 lbs.), will return it to you, and there are others, who, if you trust him with a “dinar” will not hand it back unless you stand over him, for they say: ‘as for the common people, they have no recourse to us. ‘They say lies against Allah while they know.

76) Rather, those who keep their promise and fear Allah; Allah loves the cautious.

SHAKIR:

75) And among the followers of the book there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a heap of wealth, he shall pay it back to you; and among them there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a “dinar” he shall not pay it back to you except so long as you remain firm in demanding it; this is because they say: there is not upon us in the matter of the unlearned people any way (to reproach); and they tell a lie against Allah while they know

76) Yea, whoever fulfills his promise and guards (against evil) — then surely Allah loves those who guard (against evil)

PICKTHAL:

75) Among the people of the scripture there is he who, if thou trust him with a weight of treasure, will return it to thee. And among them there is he who, if thou trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to thee unless thou keep standing over him. That is because they say: we have no duty to the gentiles. They speak a lie concerning Allah knowingly.

76) Nay, but (the chosen of Allah is) he who fulfilleth his pledge and wardeth off (evil); for lo! Allah loveth those who ward off (evil).

YUSUFALI:

75) among the people of the book are some who, if entrusted with a hoard of gold, will (readily) pay it back; others, who, if entrusted with a single silver coin, will not repay it unless thou constantly stoodest demanding, because, they say, “there is no call on us (to keep faith) with these ignorant (pagans).” but they tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it.

76) Nay – those that keep their plighted faith and act aright,-verily Allah loves those who act aright.
