Angels in Islam (15) the Arabs worshiped female Angel gods

– The Angels are honored Allah’ servants who have no sex, they do not marry; they are not like us.

– Shall man have whatever he wishes for like worshipping the Angels?

– Shall man have the right to say that the Angels are Allah’s daughters and gives them feminine names although such man dishonors the girls?

– However, the Angels’ intercession in the Afterlife cannot avail in any way except after Allah gives them the permission for it.

—————————————————

Throughout the history, man was confused about the nature of the Angels.

The scholars and the philosophers have four different belief concerning the nature of Angels and who they are:

  1. The first party believes that they are the sons of God
  2. The second party believes that they are the daughters of God
  3. The third party believes that they are God
  4. The fourth party believes that they are partners of God

The Quran denies and disproves all of the above belief.

In the article Angels in Islam (10) the Quran denies the Bible’s claim that the Angels are the sons of God who married the daughters of the People!(Genesis 6:2)

In the article Angels in Islam (11) the Quran says that neither Jesus nor the Angels who are close and favored, to Allah, would never disdain, scorn or reject haughtily, to be a slave of Allah.

In the article Angels in Islam (13) the Quran condemns the pre-Islamic belief of the daughters are to be for Allah, while the sons are to be for Arabs.

In the article Angels in Islam (14) the Quran declares that Satan was the source of the belief that the Angels are the daughters of Allah

—————————————————

The Arabs before Islam believed that Allah is the Supreme Allah and the gate to Him is his daughters, the Angels. They had to worship His daughters to satisfy him; they gave the Angels feminine names as:

  • al-Lat,
  • al-Uzza,
  • Manat, the third

According to the previous article, such belief and names are but Satanic invented stuffs.

The verses 53:19-31 say:

– Have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza, and Manat, the third?

– Do these idols have the power over anything, such that you worship them besides Allah Who has the power over all that has been mentioned?’

– And because of their assertion also that the angels were Allah’s daughters, despite their aversion to daughters (they used to favor sons and dishonor girls) the Quran continues:

Are you to have males, and Allah females?

That, then, would indeed be an unfair division! Unjust division!

– These, the mentioned deities, are nothing but invented names which you and your fathers have named idols that you worship.

Allah has not revealed any warrant, any proof or evidence, for the worship of them.

– They follow nothing but conjecture, in their worship of them, and that which ignoble souls desire, of that which Satan adorned for them, that they may intercede for them before Allah, exalted be He, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord, by the tongue of the Prophet Muhammad, with definitive proof; yet they do not desist from their ways.

– Or shall man, that is, shall every human being among them, have whatever he wishes for? Such as [their wish] that the idols intercede for them. No! It is not so.

– Yet to Allah belong the Afterlife and the former life, and so nothing comes to pass in them except what He, exalted, wills.

– And how many an angel, there is in the heavens, and how honored they are in Allah’s sight but, whose intercession cannot avail in any way except after Allah gives permission, to them for this intercession, for whomever He wills, of His servants, and, with whom, He is satisfied.

– Truly those who do not believe in the Afterlife give the angels the names of females, for they say: ‘They are Allah’s daughters’

– But they do not have any knowledge thereof, of this claim. They follow, in this respect, nothing but conjecture, which they have conjured up, and indeed conjecture can never substitute for the truth.

– So shun him who turns away from Our Remembrance that is, from the Quran, and desires nothing but the life of this world

Turn your face, O Muhammad from him who turns away from our remembrance, from our divine Oneness and Scripture and desires but that which is in the life of the world ignoring the Afterlife.

—————————————————

The verses 53:19-31 (YUSUFALI translation):

19-20) have ye seen allat and al’uzza, and another, the third (goddess), manat?

21-22) What! For you the male sex, and for him (Allah), the female? Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!

23) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- even though there has already come to them guidance from their lord!

24-25) Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? But it is to Allah that the end and the beginning (of all things) belong

26) How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom he pleases and that he is acceptable to him.

27-28) those who believe not in the hereafter, name the angels with female names. But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against truth.

29-30) therefore shun those who turn away from our message and desire nothing but the life of this world. That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy lord knoweth best those who stray from his path, and he knoweth best those who receive guidance.

31) Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that he rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and he rewards those who do good, with what is best.

In the article Angels in Islam (13) the Quran condemns and denies the pre-Islamic belief of the daughters are to be for Allah, while the sons are to be for Arabs?

We knew that Arabs before Islam believe that the Angels are female and they are the daughters of Allah and Allah’s descendants are only females!

And such daughters of Allah deserve to be worshipped.

This was the background of why the Arabs before Islam used to worship the Angels, the daughters of Allah as they assumed

However, what was the source of such belief that is the Angels are but the daughters of Allah?

The verses 4:116-117 say:

Instead of Allah, the idolaters worship idols with feminine names and the rebellious Satan for they are obeying him (Satan).

This indicates that Satan was the source of this evil idea, which is the Angels are the daughters of Allah.

It is important to realize that Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him;

Whoever associates anything with Allah, verily he has get lost far away, from the truth.

The verses 37:149-166 say:

The Arabs before Islam assert kinship between Allah and the angels.

On the other hand, the angels know that the unbelievers will be assembled together and dwell in the Eternal hell

Read how Allah describes the Angels: They are “the sincere worshipers of Allah

Now listen to what the Angels say about themselves:

Each of us has a known place.

We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. And

We are the ones who exalt Allah

—————————————————

The verses 4:116-117 (QARIB translation):

116) Allah does not forgive (the sin of inventing an) association with him, but he forgives other sins to whomsoever he will. Whosoever associates with Allah has gone astray in far error.

117) instead of him they supplicate to none but females, and indeed they supplicate to none except the rebellious Satan,

The verses 37:149-166 (QARIB translation)

149-154) Now، ask them (o Muhammad): has your lord daughters، and they sons? Or، did we create the angels females while they were witnessing? Then is it of their lying that they say: ‘Allah has begotten (daughters)? They are truly liars. Has he chosen daughters above sons? What is the matter with you? How do you judge?

155-158) what, will you not remember? Or, do you have a clear authority? Bring your book, if what you say is true! They assert kinship between him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in hell).

159-166) Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, Except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. But as for you, and that you worship, you shall tempt none against him Except for he who shall roast in hell. (Gabriel said to the prophet Muhammad): ‘each of us has a known place. We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. And we are they who exalt (Allah). ‘

Angels in Islam (13) are daughters for Allah while sons for Arabs?

Nevertheless, the Arabs before Islam believe that the Angels are female and they are the daughters of Allah and Allah’s descendants are only females!

And such daughters of Allah deserve to be worshipped.

This was the background of why the Arabs before Islam used to worship the Angels, the daughters of Allah as they assumed

Look how the Quran condemns, denies and rejects this err faith.

The Quran tackles the famous custom of the Arabs that is how they look at the females.

The Arabs and the females before Islam.

The Quran says: Are daughters to be for your Lord, while sons are to be for them?

Why the Quran asks this question?

Because the Arabs put down the females. They used to dishonor the females very much. If anyone has got a female baby, he would feel very ashamed and he would bury her alive in the desert

The verses 16:57-59 say:

And they assign to Allah daughters, while they will have what they desire, namely, sons.

To Allah they assign daughters, while to themselves they assign sons.

And when one of them is given the tidings of a girl, that will be born to him, his face becomes darkened, transformed like that of one suddenly struck by grief, and he chokes inwardly, filled with anguish: so how is it that daughters are attributed to Him, exalted be He?

He hides, disappearing, from his people, out of distress at the tidings given to him, fearing mockery, unsure what to do with the newborn: shall he retain it — refrain from killing it — in humiliation, enduring shame and disgrace, or trample into the dust, by burying it alive.

Verily wretched is what they judge, evil is this judgment of theirs, in which they ascribe to their Creator that His are the daughters, who have such a lowly status in their eyes.

In addition to the verses 16:57-59, the Quran mentions this err Arabs’ faith about the Angels in many other verses like the followings:

The verse 16:57-59 (YUSUFALI translation)

57) And they assign daughters for Allah! – Glory be to him! – And for themselves (sons,- the issue) they desire!

58) When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!

59) With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! What an evil (choice) they decide on?

The verse 52:39 (YUSUFALI translation)

Or has he (Allah) only daughters and you have sons?

The verse 17:40 (QARIB translation):

What! Has your Lord favored you with sons and taken to himself females from among the angels? Indeed, you utter a monstrous thing!

The verses 43:16-25 (SHAKIR translation)

16) What! Has he taken daughters to himself of what he himself creates and chosen you to have sons?

17) And when one of them is given news of that of which he sets up as a likeness for the beneficent Allah, his face becomes black and he is full of rage

18) What! That which is made in ornaments and which in contention is unable to make plain speech!

19) And they make the angels– them who are the servants of the beneficent Allah– female (divinities). What! Did they witness their creation? Their evidence shall be written down and they shall be questioned

20) And they say: if the beneficent Allah had pleased, we should never have worshipped them. They have no knowledge of this; they only lie

21) Or have we given them a book before it so that they hold fast to it?

22) Nay! They say: we found our fathers on a course, and surely we are guided by their footsteps

23) And thus, we did not send before you any warner (Prophet) in a town, but those who led easy lives in it said: surely we found our fathers on a course, and surely we are followers of their footsteps

24) (The warner) said: what! Even if I bring to you a better guide than that on which you found your fathers? They said: surely we are unbelievers in that with which you are sent

25) So we inflicted retribution on them, then see how the end of the rejecters was

Angels in Islam (12) are they Females?

The Angels have no sex, they do not marry; they are not like us.

Now we come to the second faith rejected by the Quran; that is the Angels are the daughters of God.

Before going through this subject it seems important to know the sex of the Angels and to realize what gender they are belong to

In Islamic teaching the Angels are neither male nor female.

They have no sex, no gender are belonged to them.

Furthermore, they do not marry and they have no Children, offspring or descendants,

Simply because they are not like us.

Nevertheless, the Arabs before Islam were among the nations which believe that the Angels are female creatures.

Look how the Quran rejects this belief and threaten those who believe in it

The verse 43:19 says:

The Angels are:

·         The worshipers of Allah, the merciful

·         The slaves of the Allah, beneficent

·         They do nothing but perfectly and precisely serve Allah

However, the unbelievers:

·         Claim that the angels are females

·         Make the angels females (divinities)

·         Believe that the angels are females

Then the Quran ask those unbelievers: Did you witness their creation?

And the Quran threaten them saying:

Their testimony will be recorded and they will be questioned at the Last Day, the Day of Judgment (before they go to the Eternal Fire).

It should be emphasized that anyone who believes that the Angels are females will dwell in the Eternal Fire in the Afterlife.

—————————————————

The verses 43:19 in four different translations

QARIB:

They claim that the angels, who are themselves the worshipers of the merciful, are females. Did they witness their creation! Their witness shall be written down and they shall be questioned.

SHAKIR:

And they make the angels– them who are the servants of the beneficent Allah– female (divinities). What! Did they witness their creation? Their evidence shall be written down and they shall be questioned

PICKTHAL:

And they make the angels, who are the slaves of the beneficent, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded and they will be questioned.

YUSUFALI:

And they make into females angels who themselves serve Allah. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be called to account!

Angels in Islam (11) neither Jesus nor the Angels disdain

In the Quran, the Angels are Allah’s honored slaves

In the Bible, the Angels are sons of God who married the daughters of the People!

——————————————-

Throughout the history, man was confused about the nature of the Angels.

The scholars and the philosophers have four different belief concerning the nature of Angels and who they are:

1)    The first party believes that they are the sons of God

2)    The second party believes that they are the daughters of God

3)    The third party believes that they are God

4)    The fourth party believes that they are partners of God

The Quran denies, rebuts and disproves all of the above belief.

In the previous article, we have seen how the Quran denies the Bible’s claim that the Angels are the sons of God who married the daughters of the People!(Genesis 6:2)

In addition, the Christians claim that Jesus is the son of God.

The verses 4:171 – 173 denies also this claim and gives fertile guidance to the Christians,

The verses give the following Ten fertile guidance:

1) O People of the Gospel, do not go beyond the bounds, in your religion and do not say about Allah except the truth, such as exalting Him above any associations with a partner or a son:

2) The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was only the Messenger of Allah, and not as you claim, that he is the son of God, while Allah has no son.

3) So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say ‘Three’.

4) Refrain, from this and say what, it is better for you, [to say], which is the profession of His Oneness. Verily, Allah is but the only One God.

5) Glory be to Him, transcending the possibility, that He should have a son!

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth, as possessions, creatures and servants including the Angels,

6) And such sovereignty is not compatible with the prophet hood of Jesus.

Allah suffices as a Guardian, a Witness to this.

7) The Messiah, Jesus, would never disdain, scorn or reject haughtily, to be a slave of Allah, neither would the Angels who are close and favored, to Allah, disdain to be servants of Allah.

this is a splendid digression [to the matter of the angels], and it is mentioned as a refutation of those who claim that they [the angels] are son(s) of gods, just as He refuted the Christians who claim that which is the subject of the address to them [above].

Then the Quran says:

8) Whoever disdains to be slave of Allah, whoever disdains to worship Allah, and waxes proud, Allah will assuredly gather all of them to Him in the Day of Judgment.

9) As for those who believed, who did righteous deeds, He will pay them in full their wages, the reward for their deeds, and He will give them more of His bounty, what no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no man’s heart has ever wished for; and

10) As for them who disdain and are too proud, to worship Him, He will chastise them with a painful chastisement, which is the chastisement of the Eternal Fire, and they shall not find for themselves, besides Allah, that is, other than Him, any friend, to ward it off them, or helper, to protect them from it.

——————————————-

The verses 4:171 – 173 in two different translations

PICKTHAL:

171) O people of the scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and his word which he conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from him. So believe in Allah and his messengers, and say not “three” – cease! (It is) better for you! – Allah is only one Allah. Far is it removed from his transcendent majesty that he should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as defender.

172) the messiah will never scorn to be a slave unto Allah, nor will the favoured angels. Whoso scorneth his service and is proud, all such will he assemble unto him;

173) Then, as for those who believed and did good works, unto them will he pay their wages in full, adding unto them of his bounty; and as for those who were scornful and proud, them will he punish with a painful doom. And they will not find for them, against Allah, any protecting friend or helper.

YUSUFALI:

171) O people of the book! Commit no excesses in your religion: nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and his word, which he bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from him: so believe in Allah and his messengers. Say not “trinity”: desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: glory be to him: (far exalted is he) above having a son. To him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a disposer of affairs.

172) Christ disdaineth nor to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain his worship and are arrogant,-he will gather them all together unto himself to (answer).

173) But to those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, he will give their (due) rewards, – and more, out of his bounty: but those who are disdainful and arrogant, he will punish with a grievous penalty; nor will they find, besides Allah, any to protect or help them.

Allah does not love (20) those who desire to be Haughty in the Earth

The Story of Qaroun, Moses’ cousin -d

What those who had longed to be in his place said after Allah’s torment to Qaroun?

The sequel, Paradise, is for those who ward off evil

——————————————————

Verses 28:76-83 of the Noble Quran are talking about “Qaroun”, Moses’ cousin, who was very rich man. He was corrupter in the earth in the earth through his disdain, haughtiness and great wealth.

Verses 28:82-83 are talking about what those who had longed to be in his place said after Allah’s torment to Qaroun.  The sequel, Paradise, is for those who ward off evil, those who ward off disbelief, those who fear, God’s punishment, by performing deeds of obedience.

——————————————————

The story of Qaroun, Moses’ cousin is mentioned in the previous articles when talking about the verses  28:76-81 of the Noble Quran.

Furthermore, the verse 28:82-83 continue narrating this story.

Verse 28:82 says:

And those who had longed to be in his place, who had coveted his place, his status, standing and wealth the day before, were crying to one another were saying,

it is not as Qaroun said, i.e. that his wealth was his own doing, but rather Allah enlarges the provision for whom He will of His slaves and in the case of Qaroun such wealth was a lure to perdition, and straitened it, for whom He will out of care for the person.

‘Alas! God expands provision for whomever He will of His servants and straitens it, He restricts it for whomever He will

If Allah had not been gracious unto us, and withheld from us what He gave him,

He would have caused it to swallow us also as it swallowed Qaroun.

‘Alas! The disbelievers never prosper; they will never be safe from Allah’s torment.

Lo! Indeed those who are ungrateful, for God’s grace, such as Qaroun, never prosper.

Verse 28:83 says

As for that Abode of the Hereafter, namely, Paradise, which Allah shall grant to those who do not desire to be haughty in the earth, through insolence, or to cause corruption, by committing acts of disobedience.

Allah assigns Paradise unto those who do not seek oppression and haughtiness in the earth through their wealth,

And the, praiseworthy, the sequel, Paradise, is for those who ward off evil, those who ward off disbelief, idolatry, haughtiness and corruption in the earth.

And it will be for those who fear, God’s punishment, by performing deeds of obedience.

Verses 28:82-83 in different translations

QARIB:

82) And in the morning those who had wished to be in his place the previous evening said: ‘indeed, Allah outspreads to whom he will among his worshipers, and he restrains. had he not shown us favor, he could have caused the earth to swallow us. indeed, the unbelievers shall never prosper. ‘

83) That is the last abode, we shall assign it to those who desire neither exorbitance in the earth, nor corruption. the outcome is for the cautious.

SHAKIR:

82) And those who yearned for his place only the day before began to say: ah! (know) that Allah amplifies and straitens the means of subsistence for whom he pleases of his servants; had not Allah been gracious to us, he would most surely have abased us; ah! (know) that the ungrateful are never successful

83) (As for) that future abode, we assign it to those who have no desire to exalt themselves in the earth nor to make mischief and the good end is for those who guard (against evil)

PICKTHAL:

82) And morning found those who had coveted his place but yesterday crying: ah, welladay! Allah enlargeth the provision for whom he will of his slaves and straiteneth it (for whom he will). if Allah had not been gracious unto us he would have caused it to swallow us (also). ah, welladay! the disbelievers never prosper.

83) As for that abode of the hereafter we assign it unto those who seek not oppression in the earth, nor yet corruption. the sequel is for those who ward off (evil).

YUSUFALI:

82) And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: “ah! it is indeed Allah who enlarges the provision or restricts it, to any of his servants he pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, he could have caused the earth to swallow us up! ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper.”

83) That home of the hereafter we shall give to those who intend not high-handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous.

Allah does not love (17) the Corrupters

The Story of Qaroun, Moses’ cousin, in the Noble Quran

What the believers among the folk of Moses said to Qaroun?

—————————————————

Verses 28:76-83 of the Noble Quran are talking about “Qaroun”, Moses’ cousin, who was very rich man. He was corrupter in the earth in the earth through his disdain, haughtiness and great wealth.

Verses 28:76-77 are talking about who is Qaroun and what the believers among the folk of Moses, said to him.

—————————————————

The meanings of the verses 28:76-83 of the Noble Quran:

Verses 28:76-83 of the Noble Quran are talking about “Qaroun”, Moses’ cousin, who was very rich man. He was corrupter in the earth in the earth through his disdain, haughtiness and great wealth.

Verses 28:76-77 are talking about who is Qaroun and what the believers among the folk of Moses, said to him.

Verse 28:76 says

Indeed, Qaroun was of Moses folk, he belonged to the people of Moses.

He was Moses’ paternal and maternal cousin.

Although he had believed in him in Moses, however, he oppressed his people, he transgressed against Moses, Aaron and their folk and he became insolent towards his people, through his disdain, haughtiness and great wealth.

He said: “Moses has been given messenger ship and Aaron religious authority while have nothing; this I will not accept”, and he rejected Moses’ prophet hood.

Allah had given Qaroun so many treasures that the number of their keys would verily have burdened a group of strong men, in other words, they would have been too heavy for such men.

The number of such men required is estimated to be 70 men

In other words, Allah gave him so much treasure and wealth that the stores thereof) the keys of his stores would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men; 70 men carried the keys of his stores

This indicates that he was very wealthy.

His people, the believers among the folk of Moses, said to him, ‘Do not be exultant, in your great wealth, an exultation of insolence; do not be too proud nor associate partners with Allah

Truly Allah does not love the exultant, in such things;

Allah does not love those who are too proud because of their wealth;

Verse 28:77 says

His people, the believers among the folk of Moses, said to Qaroun

But seek the abode of the Hereafter, Paradise in that which Allah has given you through that which Allah has given you of wealth and do not neglect your portion of the world, do not leave your portion in the Hereafter because of your portion in this worldly life;

It is also said: your portion of this worldly life will not diminish because of spending from it for the Hereafter,

And be kind to the poor and needy, even as Allah hath been kind to you by giving you great wealth,

In other words, they said to him:

But seek, in that which God has given you, of wealth, the Abode of the Hereafter, by expending it in obedience to God, and do not forget your share of this world, that is, [do not forget] to strive in it for the sake of the Hereafter; and be good, to people, by [giving] voluntary alms, just as God has been good to you. And do not seek to cause corruption in the earth, by committing acts of disobedience.

Do not commit transgressions and oppose the command of the Messenger Moses,

Surely, Allah does not love the corrupters, who commit transgressions, meaning that He will punish them

—————————————————

Verses 28:76-77 in different translations:

QARIB:

76) Qaroun was one of Moses’ nation. But he was insolent to them, for we had given him such treasures that their very keys were too heavy a burden for even the strong. his people said to him: ‘do not exult; Allah does not love the boastful.

77) But seek, in that which Allah has given you to attain the everlasting residence. do not forget your share in this world. do good, as Allah has been good to you, and do not corrupt in the land, Allah does not love those who corrupt.

SHAKIR:

76) Surely Qaroun was of the people of Moses, but he rebelled against them, and we had given him of the treasures, so much so that his hoards of wealth would certainly weigh down a company of men possessed of great strength. when his people said to him: do not exult, surely Allah does not love the exultant;

77) And seek by means of what Allah has given you the future abode, and do not neglect your portion of this world, and do good (to others) as Allah has done good to you, and do not seek to make mischief in the land, surely Allah does not love the mischief-makers

PICKTHAL:

76) Now Qaroun was of Moses’ folk, but he oppressed them; and we gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. when his own folk said unto him: exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;

77) But seek the abode of the hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,

YUSUFALI:

76) Qaroun was doubtless, of the people of Moses; but he acted insolently towards them: such were the treasures we had bestowed on him that their very keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men, behold, his people said to him: “exult not, for Allah loveth not those who exult (in riches).

77) “But seek, with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the home of the hereafter, nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief.”

This is Allah (21) None can sustain the heavens and the earth save Allah

Allah forgives whoever repents

What the Jews say about the Christians?

What the Christians say about the Jews?

Allah says: the evil will turn against the people who make it

Many people do not know Allah. This series is an attempt to help them in order to know and acknowledge their Creator.

Verses 35:41-43 of the Noble Quran talks about five issues, they are:

1) None can sustain the heavens and the earth save Allah

2) Allah forgives whoever repents,

3) What the Jews say about the Christians?

4) What the Christians say about the Jews? And

5) Allah says: the evil will turn against the people who make it

The meaning of verse 35:41:

Truly Allah sustains the heavens and the earth lest they disappear, in other words, He prevents them from disappearing.

And if they were to disappear there is none that can sustain them after Him, in other words, other than Him.

Truly He is ever Forbearing, Forgiving, in deferring the punishment of the disbelievers.

In other words, it is Allah who holds the heavens and the earth that they do not disappear; and if they were to disappear; there is none who could hold them after Him. Lo! He is ever Clement, Forgiving; He forgives whoever repents of them.

The meaning of verse 35:42:

And the disbelievers of Mecca, swore by God their most solemn oaths, [they swore] with utmost effort [to be sincere] in them, that if a warner, a Prophet, a messenger, were to come to them, they would be more tractable) they would be swifter in responding and more guided in the religion (than any of the nations); they would be more readily guided than any one of the communities, [than] the Jews, the Christians or others,

In other words, they would have been more readily guided] than any one of these — having [themselves] seen the extent to which these [groups] called each other liars, given that:

The Jews say, ‘The Christians stand on nothing’, and the Christians say, ‘The Jews stand on nothing’, [See verse 2:113].

But when a warner, namely, Muhammad came unto them) with the Quran (it aroused in them naught save repugnance) from it.

In other words, when Muhammad did come to them, this, coming of his, only increased them in aversion, further away from [right] guidance,

The meaning of verse 35:43:

They, the disbelievers, were acting with disdain in the land, against faith, behaving arrogantly in the land by rejecting faith in Muhammad and in the Quran and plotting evil to kill Muhammad, (and the evil plot) evil words and works (enclosed but the men who make it) turn only against the people who make them. (Then, can they expect) can your people, once they disbelieved in you, expect (aught save the treatment of the folk of old) can they expect anything save the punishment of the people of old when they disbelieved in their messengers?

You wilt not find for Allah’s way of treatment) for Allah’s punishment (any substitute) any alteration, (nor wilt you find for Allah’s way of treatment aught of power to change to someone other than Him.

In other words, So do the disbelievers expect, do they await, anything but the precedent of the ancients?,

Allah’s way of dealing with them, such as chastising them for their denial of the messengers? Yet you will never find any change in Allah’s precedent, and you will never find any revision in Allah’s precedent, that is to say, chastisement is never replaced by anything else, nor is it ever meted out other than to the one who deserves it.

43) Behaving arrogantly in the land and devising evil. but, evil devising coils only those who do it. do they look except for the ways of former nations? you shall never find any change in the way of Allah.

SHAKIR:

41) Surely Allah upholds the heavens and the earth lest they come to naught; and if they should come to naught, there is none who can uphold them after him; surely he is the forbearing, the forgiving

42) And they swore by Allah with the strongest of their oaths that if there came to them a warner they would be better guided than any of the nations; but when there came to them a warner it increased them in naught but aversion

43) (In) behaving proudly in the land and in planning evil; and the evil plans shall not beset any save the authors of it. then should they wait for aught except the way of the former people? for you shall not find any alteration in the course of Allah; and you shall not find any change in the course of Allah

PICKTHAL:

41) Lo! Allah graspeth the heavens and the earth that they deviate not, and if they were to deviate there is not one that could grasp them after him. lo! he is ever clement, forgiving.

42) And they swore by Allah, their most binding oath, that if a warner came unto them they would be more tractable than any of the nations; yet, when a warner came unto them it aroused in them naught save repugnance,

43) (Shown in their) behaving arrogantly in the land and plotting evil; and the evil plot encloseth but the men who make it. then, can they expect aught save the treatment of the folk of old? thou wilt not find for Allah’s way of treatment any substitute, nor wilt thou find for Allah’s way of treatment aught of power to change.

YUSUFALI:

41) It is Allah who sustains the heavens and the earth, lest they cease (to function): and if they should fail, there is none – not one – can sustain them thereafter: verily he is most forbearing, oft-forgiving.

42) They swore their strongest oaths by Allah that if a warner came to them, they would follow his guidance better than any (other) of the peoples: but when a warner came to them, it has only increased their flight (from righteousness),-

43) On account of their arrogance in the land and their plotting of evil, but the plotting of evil will hem in only the authors thereof. now are they but looking for the way the ancients were dealt with? but no change wilt thou find in Allah’s way (of dealing): no turning off wilt thou find in Allah’s way (of dealing).
