Chapter 6 of the Quran (105) Allah’s Mercy to pious and sinner is alike

If they deny you O Muhammad regarding the prohibitions that Allah described to you say: Your Lord is a Lord of all-embracing mercy towards the pious and sinner alike, in that He defers torment to the Afterlife. And His torment will never be withdrawn from the unbelievers.

In the previous articles, the pre-Islamic Arabs used to follow as rules the Satan’s footsteps in respect to the lawful and unlawful food.

The Arabs in some occasions used to forbid eating the male sheep, goat, camel and cow and they sometimes forbid eating the female sheep, goat, camel and cow; they believed that Allah commanded to do that.

The Prophet Muhammad told them that Allah did not command such rules.

An unbeliever man asked: “Let me hear from you, O Muhammad, why our forefathers forbade them”.

The Prophet Muhammad told him that the forbidden food are the carrion, the flesh of swine, the blood poured forh and anything that has been hallowed to other than Allah and has been slaughtered in the name of someone else.

However, the unbelievers denied the Prophet Muhammad

Ayah 6:147 says:

So if they give the lie to you O Muhammad regarding the prohibitions that Allah described to you say: Your Lord is a Lord of all-embracing mercy towards the pious and sinner alike, in that He defers torment to the next life, the Afterlife.

And His wrath and His torment will never be withdrawn from the guilty folk, the idolaters, the unbelievers.

So, if they deny you, with regard to what you have brought, then say to them: ‘Your Lord has all-embracing mercy, for He does not hasten to bring about your punishment.

Herein is a gentle summoning of them to the faith.

Also, it is an indirect warning of Allah’s might and His chastisement, when it comes, will never be driven back from the sinning folk.

In Hadith Qudsi, Allah, Exalted is He, said according to the phrasing of the Prophet Muhammad:

Make whoever turns his back on you desirous of me, for anyone who is desirous of me is actually desirous of you, no other. Furthermore, give them hope of my mercy and do not cut your heart off from them, say, “Your Lord has all-encompassing mercy.

The verse 6:147 in different translations

QARIB:

If they belie you, say: ‘your lord is the owner of all encompassing mercy, but his might cannot be withheld from the nation, the evildoers. ‘

SHAKIR:

But if they give you the lie, then say: your lord is the lord of all-encompassing mercy; and his punishment cannot be averted from the guilty people

PICKTHAL:

So if they give the lie to thee (Muhammad), say: your lord is a lord of all-embracing mercy, and his wrath will never be withdrawn from guilty folk.

YUSUFALI:

If they accuse thee of falsehood, say: “your lord is full of mercy all-embracing; but from people in guilt never will his wrath be turned back.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (103) the Forbidden Food

The forbidden food are the carrion, the flesh of swine, the blood poured forth and anything that has been hallowed to other than Allah and has been slaughtered in the name of someone else.

 However, whoever is constrained, to eat any of what has been mentioned, and he consumes it, neither coveting nor transgressing, then surely Allah is forgiving.

In the previous two articles, Ayah 6:143-144 describe some Satan’s footsteps that the pre-Islamic Arabs used to follow as rules in respect to the lawful and unlawful food.

The Arabs in some occasions used to forbid eating the male sheep, goat, camel and cow and they sometimes forbid eating the female sheep, goat, camel and cow; they believed that Allah commanded to do that.

The Prophet Muhammad told them that Allah did not command such rules.

A man among them asked: “Let me hear from you, O Muhammad, why our forefathers forbade them”.

Ayah 6:145 says:

So Allah said: Say O Muhammad: I do not find, in what is revealed to me, anything forbidden to eats except that:

1) The carrion, the meat of a dead animal, it is an abomination

2) The Blood poured forth, flowing, as opposed to a liver or a spleen, it is forbidden.

3) The flesh of swine, it is strictly prohibited.

4) Anything that has been hallowed to other than Allah, that is to say, it has been slaughtered in the name of someone else

But whoever is constrained, to eat any of what has been mentioned, and he consumes it, neither coveting nor transgressing, then surely your Lord is Forgiving, to him for what he has consumed, Allah is Merciful in that which He made dispensation for him.

However, one ought not to eat to satiety, and if he does, Allah will pardon him.

The verse 6:145 in different translations

QARIB:

say: ‘i find nothing in what has been revealed to me that forbids any one to eat of any food except the dead, running blood, and the flesh of swine for these were unclean and that which has been hallowed in its slaughter to other than Allah. but whoever is constrained to eat of any of these, not intending to sin or transgress, then your lord is forgiving, the most merciful.

SHAKIR:

say: i do not find in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden for an eater to eat of except that it be what has died of itself, or blood poured forth, or flesh of swine– for that surely is unclean– or that which is a transgression, other than (the name of) Allah having been invoked on it; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring nor exceeding the limit, then surely your lord is forgiving, merciful

PICKTHAL:

say: i find not in that which is revealed unto me aught prohibited to an eater that he eat thereof, except it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or swineflesh – for that verily is foul – or the abomination which was immolated to the name of other than Allah. but whoso is compelled (thereto), neither craving nor transgressing, (for him) lo! thy lord is forgiving, merciful.

YUSUFALI:

say: “i find not in the message received by me by inspiration any (meat) forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be dead meat, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine,- for it is an abomination – or, what is impious, (meat) on which a name has been invoked, other than Allah’s”. but (even so), if a person is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- thy lord is oft-forgiving, most merciful.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (101) Satan and Sheep and Goats

The Quran describes some Satan’s footsteps that the pre-Islamic Arabs used to follow as rules in respect to eating cattle. The Quran says: Is it the two males, of the sheep and goats, Allah have forbidden you to eat? Or is it the two females, of the sheep and goats, Allah have forbidden you to eat?

In the previous article, the Quran commands you to eat of that which Allah has provided you of crops and cattle, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan of of forbidding lawful food and of deeming unlawful food as lawful.

Ayah 6:143 describes some Satan’s footsteps that the pre-Islamic Arabs used to follow as rules; it says:

Allah has created eight pairs of cattle, eight types, some for burdens to bear loads and some for light support and food.

For example, Allah has created two pairs of sheep, a male and a female; and two pairs of goats a male and a female too.

Say O Muhammad to the unbelievers among the Arabs who on one occasion deem male cattle forbidden, and on another occasion deem the female cattle forbidden, and then they ascribe such rules to Allah.

Ask them O Muhammad:

Is it the two males, of the sheep and goats, Allah have forbidden you to eat?

Is it the two females, of the sheep and goats, Allah have forbidden you to eat? Or

Have Allah forbidden that which the wombs of the two females contain, be they male or female?

Inform me with knowledge, of the details of such prohibitions, if you speak truly.

Expound to me with knowledge, if you were truthful that Allah has made unlawful that which you claim.

On what basis has the prohibition been made?

If it is on the basis of maleness, then all males were forbidden;

If it is on the basis of femaleness, then all females were so forbidden;

If it is on the basis of what the womb may contain, then both genders were prohibited.

So, on what basis were such specifications made?

This form of interrogative is meant as repudiation.

QARIB:

(He has given you) eight couples, a pair of sheep and a pair of goats. say: ‘of these, has he forbidden you the males, the females, or what the wombs of the two females contain? Tell me with knowledge, if you were truthful. ‘

SHAKIR:

Eight in pairs– two of sheep and two of goats. Say: has he forbidden the two males or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge if you were truthful

PICKTHAL:

Eight pairs: of the sheep twain, and of the goats twain. say: hath he forbidden the two males or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Expound to me (the case) with knowledge, if ye were truthful.

YUSUFALI:

(Take) eight (head of cattle) in (four) pairs: of sheep a pair, and of goats a pair; say, hath he forbidden the two males, or the two females, or (the young) which the wombs of the two females enclose? tell me with knowledge if ye were truthful:

Chapter 6 of the Quran (100) Satan’s Footsteps

Do not follow the footsteps of Satan of forbidding lawful things  Do not follow the footsteps of Satan of deeming unlawful things as lawful. Some people forbid eating sea foods although sea foods are lawful and some people eat pork meat although it is strictly forbidding.

Ayah 6:142 says:

It is Allah who creates the cattle for mankind to help us.

Some cattle are used for burden; Allah hes created them fit to bear loads such as the large mature camels; however, some cattle are not fit for load-bearing tasks such as young camels or sheep.

Some cattle are called “farsh” because they are like ‘bedding spread on the ground. Farsh, in Arabic means means something spread on the ground to sit or to lay down on it or ot means bedding on account of its physical closeness to the ground.

Some cattle are used for food like sheep or cows etc.

Eat of that which Allah has provided you of crops and cattle, and

Do not follow the footsteps of Satan

Do not follow the footsteps of Satan of forbidding lawful things

Do not follow the footsteps of Satan of deeming unlawful things as lawful.

It is well known that some people forbid eating sea foods although sea foods are lawful, on the other hand, some people eat pork meat although it is strictly forbidding.

Also, the pre-Islamic Arabs used to follow Satan’s footsteps by forbidding eating some crops and cattle.

Do not follow the footsteps of Satan

This is the most fruitful command for mankind.

It is a general command for anyone who seeks the Straight Path that eventually leads to the Eternal Paradasie in the afterlife.

Books could be written to explain this “few words’ command”

However, one can summarise this command in the following few decrees:

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to worship anything save Allah

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to commit murder

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to earn unlawful money

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to dishonor your parents

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to commit adultery

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to pledge homosexuality

O man, do not follow Satan’s Footsteps that cause you to lie and followfalsehood things, etc.

O man, always remember that Satan’s enmity is quite manifest and evident.

Surely Satan is a manifest foe to you.

The verse 6:142 in different translations

QARIB:

And of the cattle, some were for carrying burdens, and others for slaughter. eat of that which Allah has provided you with and do not follow in satan’s footsteps; he is your open enemy.

SHAKIR:

And of cattle (he created) beasts of burden and those which were fit for slaughter only; eat of what Allah has given you and do not follow the footsteps of the shaitan; surely he is your open enemy

PICKTHAL:

And of the cattle (he produceth) some for burdens, some for food. eat of that which Allah hath bestowed upon you, and follow not the footsteps of the devil, for lo! he is an open foe to you.

YUSUFALI:

Of the cattle were some for burden and some for meat: eat what Allah hath provided for you, and follow not the footsteps of satan: for he is to you and avowed enemy.

Allah loves (3) those who guard against evil

Allah loves those who keep their promise

The Trustworthiness and Treachery of the followers of the Scripture

Verse 3:75 of the Quran talks about the trustworthiness and treachery of the followers of the Scripture, some are honest and the others are dishonest.

Verse 3:76 honors those who keep their promise and says that Allah loves those who guard against evil.

The verse 3:75 means:

In this verse, Allah mentions the trustworthiness and treachery of the people of the Book, saying:

Among the People of the Scripture there is he who, if you trust him with a weight of treasure (with a hundredweight, that is, with much money), will return it to you without any problem, hardship or ever thinking to keep it for himself by declaring it lawful for him to take.

And among them there is he who, if you trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to you and will declare it lawful for him to take unless you keep standing over him insisting on taking it back and suing him for it.

That treachery and declaring that it is lawful to take other people’s property is because they say: We have no duty to the Gentiles; there is no harm in taking the property of Arabs.

In other words, that refusal to return things, is because they say, ‘we have no duty towards, the Gentiles’, the Arabs; for they considered it lawful to be unjust towards any person of a different religion, and they attributed [the source of] this conviction to God, exalted be He.

They speak a lie concerning Allah knowingly;

They lie about Allah and know that they are lying.

The verse 3:76 means:

Nay, there is a duty incumbent over them in this regard; but whoever fulfills his covenant, the one he has made or the covenant of God, by restoring a trust and other such things, and has fear, of God, by refraining from disobedience and performing deeds of obedience, for truly Allah loves the God-fearing: ‘He loves them’ means that He will reward them in the afterlife.

Verse 3:75-76 in different translations:

QARIB:

75) Among the people of the book there are some, who, if you trust him with a “qintar” (98,841.6 lbs.), will return it to you, and there are others, who, if you trust him with a “dinar” will not hand it back unless you stand over him, for they say: ‘as for the common people, they have no recourse to us. ‘They say lies against Allah while they know.

76) Rather, those who keep their promise and fear Allah; Allah loves the cautious.

SHAKIR:

75) And among the followers of the book there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a heap of wealth, he shall pay it back to you; and among them there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a “dinar” he shall not pay it back to you except so long as you remain firm in demanding it; this is because they say: there is not upon us in the matter of the unlearned people any way (to reproach); and they tell a lie against Allah while they know

76) Yea, whoever fulfills his promise and guards (against evil) — then surely Allah loves those who guard (against evil)

PICKTHAL:

75) Among the people of the scripture there is he who, if thou trust him with a weight of treasure, will return it to thee. And among them there is he who, if thou trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to thee unless thou keep standing over him. That is because they say: we have no duty to the gentiles. They speak a lie concerning Allah knowingly.

76) Nay, but (the chosen of Allah is) he who fulfilleth his pledge and wardeth off (evil); for lo! Allah loveth those who ward off (evil).

YUSUFALI:

75) among the people of the book are some who, if entrusted with a hoard of gold, will (readily) pay it back; others, who, if entrusted with a single silver coin, will not repay it unless thou constantly stoodest demanding, because, they say, “there is no call on us (to keep faith) with these ignorant (pagans).” but they tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it.

76) Nay – those that keep their plighted faith and act aright,-verily Allah loves those who act aright.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (83) the Magicians Dispute

When Allah revealed the unlawfulness of the meat of carrion, the Magicians wrote to the idolaters of Mecca that Muhammad and his Companions claim that they follow the command of Allah but then say that what they slaughter is lawful and that which is slaughtered by Allah is unlawful.

Ayah 6:120 says:

Forsake the apparent obvious sin that may be discovered by people, and

Forsake the veiled secret sin that is too hard to be discovered by people, and

Remember that Allah knows everything and surely those who commit sin shall be requited on the Day of Judgment for what they used to perpetrate.

When Allah revealed the unlawfulness of the meat of carrion, the Magicians among the people of Persia wrote to the idolaters of Mecca, who were their allies in the pre-Islamic period and kept contact with each other, that Muhammad and his Companions claim that they follow the command of Allah but then say that what they slaughter is lawful and that which is slaughtered by Allah is unlawful.

The idolaters of Mecca went to the Prophet Muhammad and said: “O Muhammad, tell us: ‘When a sheep dies, who has killed it?’

Muhammad said: ‘Allah killed it!’

They said: ‘How is it then that which is killed by you and your Companions is lawful, but that which is killed by Allah is unlawful?’

This caused doubt in the minds of some Muslims, and so Allah, revealed this verse”.

Ayah 6:121 says:

And do not eat from that over which Allah’s Name has not been invoked, where it has died or been sacrificed to other than His Name.

What a Muslim sacrifices and does not invoke Allah’s Name over, whether intentionally or forgetfully, is unlawful, the eating thereof, is wickedness, a contravention of what is lawful.

And it is true that the devils inspire, whisper to their friends, the disbelievers, to dispute with you, in deeming carrion lawful; they are regarding the consumption of the meat of carrion lawful, and

If you obey them, in this matter, you are truly unbelievers like them because you do not obey your Almighty Creator, Allah.

The verses 6:120-121 in different translations

QARIB:

120) forsake the revealed and hidden sin. Those who earn sin shall be recompensed for what they have committed.

121) do not eat from that which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for it is a sin. The Satans will reveal to their guided ones to argue with you. If you obey them, you shall indeed become idolaters.

SHAKIR:

120) and aband on open and secret sin; surely they who earn sin shall be recompensed with what they earned

121) and do not eat of that on which Allah’s name has not been mentioned, and that is most surely a transgression; and most surely the shaitans suggest to their friends that they should contend with you; and if you obey them, you shall most surely be polytheists

PICKTHAL:

120) forsake the outwardness of sin and the inwardness thereof. Lo! Those who garner sin will be awarded that which they have earned.

121) and eat not of that whereon Allah’s name hath not been mentioned, for lo! it is abomination. Lo! The devils do inspire their minions to dispute with you. But if ye obey them, ye will be in truth idolaters.

YUSUFALI:

120) eschew all sin, open or secret: those who earn sin will get due recompense for their “earnings.”

121) eat not of (meats) on which Allah’s name hath not been pronounced: that would be impiety. But the evil ones ever inspire their friends to contend with you if ye were to obey them, ye would indeed be pagans.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (82) Allah Prohibits such Belief

One of the beliefs of the idolators of Mecca was to slaughter their sacrifice to the name of their idols. They believed that the idols are their gods which bestowed on them the sheeps, cattle, camels etc. The Quran prohibits this belief.

In the previous article, if the Muslims followed the idolators of Mecca in their belief, the idolators would lead them astray from the straight path of Allah.

One of the beliefs of the idolators of Mecca was to slaughter their sacrifice to the name of their idol(s). They believed that the idols are their gods which bestowed on them the sheeps, cattle, camels etc.

Ayah 6:118 forbids and prohibits this belief; it says:

Eat of that over which the name of Allah has been mentioned and invoked of immolated animals, if you believe in the Quran.

Ayah 6:119 commands the Muslims saying:

How should you not eat of that over which the name of Allah hath been mentioned of immolated animals?

Allah has explained unto you that which is forbidden unto you such as the meat of carrion, blood and pork.

You are not to eat carrion, blood and pork unless you are compelled thereto and you are forced to eat to survive

However, many people call on you to eat the meat of carrion and/or pork through ignorance; do not follow them, and

Remember that Allah is best aware of the transgressors who overstep the bounds from the lawful to that which is unlawful.

QARIB:

118) eat then of that over which the name of Allah has been mentioned (when slaughtered), if you truly believe in his verses.

119) and why should you not eat of that over which the name of Allah has been pronounced when he has already made plain to you what is forbidden, except when you are constrained? many are those who mislead through ignorance on account of their fancies, but your lord best knows the transgressors.

SHAKIR:

118) therefore eat of that on which Allah’s name has been mentioned if you are believers in his communications

119) and what reason have you that you should not eat of that on which Allah’s name has been mentioned, and he has already made plain to you what he has forbidden to you– excepting what you are compelled to; and most surely many would lead (people) astray by their low desires out of ignorance; surely your lord– he best knows those who exceed the limits

PICKTHAL:

118) eat of that over which the name of Allah hath been mentioned, if ye are believers in his revelations.

119) how should not eat of that over which the name of Allah hath been mentioned, when he hath explained unto you that which is forbidden unto you unless ye are compelled thereto. but lo! many are led astray by their own lusts through ignorance. lo! thy lord, he is best aware of the transgressors.

YUSUFALI:

118) so eat of (meats) on which Allah’s name hath been pronounced, if ye have faith in his signs.

119) why should ye not eat of (meats) on which Allah’s name hath been pronounced, when he hath explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you – except under compulsion of necessity? but many do mislead (men) by their appetites unchecked by knowledge. thy lord knoweth best those who transgress.

Chapter 6 of the Quran (80) The Quran is the Perfect Word of Allah

The Quran is the Perfect word of your Lord in the way of its command and prohibitions, truth and justice. It is explaining fully the lawful and the unlawful and it has prescribed that His followers shall triumph on the Day of Judgment and in the Afterlife.

In the previous article, all the prophets have their enemies of men and jinn.

The Prophet Muhammad was not an exception.

The Prophet Muhammad and his followers have the Quran; that is the Word of Allah and the unbelievers have their fine varnished speech that leads the people astray.

Now; which of which we have to follow?

Allah commanded his Prophet Muhammad and his followers to say:

1)    Shall we worship as God other than Allah?

2)    Shall we seek for judge other than Allah?

Shall we do that when Allah has revealed unto us the His perfect Word, the Quran.

 

Ayah 6:115 says:

The Quran is the Perfect word of your Lord in the way of rulings

The Quran is the Perfect word of your Lord; it is explaining fully the lawful and the unlawful.

The Quran is the Perfect word of your Lord in the way of its command and prohibitions

The Quran is the Perfect word of your Lord in the way of its truth and justice.

The Quran is the Perfect word; it has prescribed that His followers shall triumph on the Day of Judgment and in the Afterlife.

Nothing can change His words about His giving help to His followers.

None can change His words by contravening His rulings and

None can change His words by evading His appointed terms.

It is also said that this means: the religion of your Lord is now manifest, people truthfully believe that it is Allah’s religion.

Always remember that Allah is the Hearer of their speech and of what they said.

Always remember that Allah is the Hearer of their fine varnished speech that the unbelievers use to lead the people astray.

Always remember that Allah is the Knower of them and of what they have done.

Always remember that Allah is the Knower of them;

He knows that they do not believe in the Day of Judgment and Afterlife;

They deny the fact that they will be punished for what they are acquiring of sins on the Day of Judgment although it is the absolute truth.

QARIB:

Perfected are the words of your lord in truth and justice, none can change his words. he is the hearing, the knowing.

 

SHAKIR:

And the word of your lord has been accomplished truly and justly; there is none who can change his words, and he is the hearing, the knowing

 

PICKTHAL:

Perfected is the word of thy lord in truth and justice. there is naught that can change his words. he is the hearer, the knower.

 

YUSUFALI:

The word of thy lord doth find its fulfilment in truth and in justice: none can change his words: for he is the one who heareth and knoweth all.
